It's probably the correct rod but is bent.

did not look bent and is coming up WAY short...

it is the only new rod in engine, must be too short.

tdc and bdc are ~1" less on cyl 1. i suspect the rod is a SII in the SI engine.

What I ment was, I would have thought you would have checked piston to deck height when it was apart, after I had suggested a possible bent rod. Even though it isn't bent, you would have found it last time it was apart if you had checked.

i am not going to disagree with you, you live and you learn...

i would have NEVER expected the rod to be incorrect, i had the rod/piston out and it was fine.

oh well, i should be up and running soon.
