I agree. That's a huge difference in temperature.

This week we are getting are hottest weather of the year. 35C and unless I cool down with an intermittent shot of Boost cooler I am now forced to run the 3.4" pulley.

Kinda funny you guys are talking about meth and what not, I had just mentioned about bringing this up in another thread. I have a turbo car that I run a 50/50 mix of meth and distilled water. while willwren is correct in that the meth doesn't cool down engine temps, it does wonders for the boost/charge intake and outlet temps.
I normally run about 25lbs of boost and have seen temps as high at 1500 degs and up. When spraying the meth mix, it brought down exhaust gas temps to a steady 1400 (sometimes a bit lower depending on the ambient air temp) when I hit the throttle hard.

The one thing I did have to run was bigger injectors in order to keep up with the fuel demands. I might see 1-2 points of knock but thats rare and this is common for anyone running a good tune. The kit I have is from "coolingmist" and the tank houses the pump in between the walls of itself.
You dont have to refill it as often as one thinks, it all depends on how hard u run the car. Great way of keeping those EGT's down and reducing knock at the same time. Similar to the water injection that the silver bullet is running. Just something that could be considered as an alternative.

So why would a 160 stat not make a difference? I'm not concerned with the loss of MPG, the cam did enough damage in that department.

I think it would make a difference.

That's why I want to try a 160. :???:

Sorry if this sounds dumb but at what tempature do you have your knock sensors activating?

You can change that?

I thought you could? That was the thing with running the 160 degree T-stat. The knock senors don't activate till around that tempature. I was looking for the option to what tempature they turn on, in DHP powertuner but I didn't see it?.

I haven't seen that either, but that would be cool. So theroretically you could change that temp and decrease the false KR?

If anything false KR comes from other parameters, and the actual knock sensors themselves are useful....

Unless you're changing the computer's open/closed loop to where it will only run a certain way under x degrees.

158 stock. It was warm enough and registered knock in the staging burnout and a bit in 2nd.

Its a setting on HPT, check spark retard.

JFDugal wrote:In DHP, check in Calibration Data -> Spark -> Knock Sensor. The value you want is Spark_Control_Coolant_Disable.

I would suggest dropping that value down a bit from the stock ~160F value.

I dropped it to 140 for the time being.

I'm still debating a 160 stat, but for now I'm saving a little cash for other projects.

I run my 160 stat year round as long as the outside temp does not go below 40 F.

So basically he'll have to go back to a 180* in the winter? Not like it's too hard to change out.

not below 40*F. I'm happy when it doesn't get to -40*F in the winter here. Only got to -30*F a couple of times this year. Car didn't like to start with that. Might as well try it anyway Kyle. Its less than $10 and 10min of your time to change it out.
