Exhaust leak fixed!
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 71#p119671
Still not getting power. Have swapped the MAF, IAC, and TPS. My next guess is fuel filter/pump. I am yet to put my fuel pressure gauge on the rail, just been so preoccupied with the exhaust leak.

Change the fuel filter, and do the seafoam trick. Actually, reverse that. Do Seafoam then Fuel filter.

The project is in someone else's hands at this point. I brought the car to my dad's this weekend to see if he had any ideas with it. He ended up falling in love with it and bought it from me. As you know he is a GM mechanic and should be able to figure out the problem better than me. He is curious to see whats causing it. When he drove it he said it sounds like the engine isn't getting enough air. He thinks maybe the timing chain is stretched. We shall see, but at least its out of my hands, LOL! I'll let everyone know what he figures out is wrong with it. I really didn't even get to do everything I wanted to do to it, oh well. Many of you know that he already owns a DCM 97 SSEi, but recently he let my brother borrow the car because he needed a 4-dr car with his kid. That borrowing session turned into a kind of ownership so my dad basically gave the car to my brother. He wants another 97 SSEi and because this one was a 40th, it makes it all the cooler. BTW, I sold the car for $2000, about $1000 under book, but about $1300 in profit.

You did wonderful work, Haro. Could you keep us updated if your dad figures out what's wrong with it? I'm curious now.

Bump. Dad has been working on figuring out the problem for weeks now. He finally decided it was that the timing chain jump causing the timing to retard. He removed the front cover and found the chain and tensioner to be in good condition. He then discovered that the harmonic balancer pulley was installed incorrectly. Whoever put the new crankshaft position sensor in before I bought the car, installed it wrong. They didn't use the key and just rammed the pulley on. He said it was about 30° off. So when the CPS thought the pulley was at TDC, it was not even close... which causes major runability issues. He is working on putting things back together with a new chain and tensioner and all new gaskets. Should be running really good after its done. I'm glad he figured it out, because I surely never would have.

Great that he discovered this.
Exactly what happens when people who probably shouldn't work on vehicles do. Nothing wrong with learning by doing, but wow... do your homework first!

Ya the duct tape held the trunk lid shut before the latch was installed. The tape residue comes off easily with lacquer thinner.
