can you buy a blower for $14?
The spray painting is mostly so I've got something to do during the week while I'm away from the car... the block is with the car in boulderland, 45 miles from me. I'm not going to watse the 6 hours a week i get with the car painting the block. it's not a show car.

You keep saying its not a show car and then paint anything you can unbolt red. I'm not trying to be a dick, just giving you some grief.

Re: The AClockworkGarage.com Race car build thread.
Saturday update. The past few weeks have brought crummy weather so I haven't made the drive but the weather was sticky and hot today so we begrudgingly crawled under the car to do some wrenching. With the motor getting buttoned up we crawled under the car to snap off some bolts, I mean to install the big sway bar, figuring it would be a buttload easier without the motor and exhaust in the way.

Here's the new one next to the old one. The new one is a 32, the old either a 28 or a 30, I forget which. we snaked the bar onto the cradle and mounted it up using energy suspension poly endlinks and centres.

I'm polyamourous
It looks simple when you're just looking at pictures but it's a massive PITA without dropping the cradle. I've done it both ways now. Next time, I'll drop the cradle. The last couple hours were spent figuring out which bracket systems we were going to need to use to mount up all the accessories, finding those brackets inside the car parts shed (the back seat of the car) and test fitting these...

Ooooooooooh...

Ahhhhhhhhhh...

Ehhhh...
The bolt holding the motor on the stand was interfering with the crossover pipe, but it does look like this set will snug together just fine and not be affected by the misalignment seen in the newest batch. So that's some good news...
Plugs are going in, getting closer every week.

and with that we decided to put the motor to bed. Every wheek we've been tucking her in by taping a plastic garden bag over the block to keep out the critters. this week I decided to try something fancier. This:

Just wrap it around the motor and zip it up. It's even waterproof. Right on!

That's it for this week. stay tuned for more slow and steady progress!

Recommend you wrap the crossover exhaust pipe to insulate radiant heat into the take tube.

That's the plan. we'll install the downpipe, drop the motor in. wrap the crossoverpipe and install that, then install the front.

Re: The AClockworkGarage.com Race car build thread.
Weather and life have struggled long and hard to keep me away from the car but today I chewed through my leather restraints and made my way eastward to work on her some more. We're getting to the part now where big things aren't happening much anymore so pics aren't as impressive.
We started by swapping the long runners for the HP3 insert

and mounting that on the motor.
From here on it was mostly teduious things, cleaning and rebuilding the old fuel injectors and transfering them over to the new rail. swapping out O-rings and elbows. mounting up the brackets and alternator. mounting up the AC bypass. Boring but important stuff. The motor is ready for sensors and wiring harness now. and soon it will be nestled into it's new home.

next week will be another nothing week as both don and I are out of town. the following week will be finishing the motor and prepping the engine bay. Then we're on to installing this:

should be fun.
See you in 2 weeks.

What car were the sway bar bushings for? The energysuspension ones i put on my 88 were a universal that i had to trim to that shape. Worked fine but would have been nice to have ones like that from the start.

I don't know actually. They came from Rock auto a long time ago and I don't have the part # anymore. I had to do a little trimming to get them to fit but they were pretty much a bolt in.Zeik75 wrote:What car were the sway bar bushings for? I recommend lubing those sway bar bushings with a good graphite lube or they will squeak.

I'd also suggest adding a zerk fitting, drill a hole through the bushing, and a groove in the bushing around the sway bar around 90% of it. That way you can lube them up anytime they need it.

Re: The AClockworkGarage.com Race car build thread.
Today on bad ideas... I got a set of stainless steel hex cap screws for the TB sensors. Will all the sensors removed one thing led to another and oops it's naked.

I'm not going to touch anything inside, it'd be too easy to screw it up. but I took a few minutes with the Dremel to clean up some of the casting flash.

once it's dry I will slap a coat of red paint on it and (hopefully) put it back together. I figure worst case I'll hit my salvage yard and snag another. Just something to poke at in the two weeks away from the project car.

Re: The AClockworkGarage.com Race car build thread.
Got the T/B cleaned up masked and sprayed today. It rained so I did it indoors in my cardboard spray booth.

An indoor paintjob in high humidity never cures right, plus I want to get this back together before I forget how the springs work. So into the oven for some low heat for a few hours.

It actually went back together with almost no struggle. Looks good too. This is the last major part that needs to be attached to the motor before it's ready to drop back in the car... Time is passing far too slowly.
