Also, is your modded engine now faster than the V8?

The aftermarket for this Northstar is extremely limited, basically they just recently unlocked the PCM and that's about it. The L67 has enough aftermarket to basically do anything you want with it. In this case, the only advantage the Northstar has is the amazing exhaust note vs the 3800 that doesn't sound that good. Other then that the L67 he dropped in is basically better in any other way. It is modified quite a bit and will easily out muscle the Northstar.

What sort of horsepower are you getting with this set up?
I wish I hadn't, but I just added up all the parts that I have into the engine/trans. Over $7500 retail, not including the original engine/trans. However, a lot of the parts were from my previous build and some others were used.

I have idea of what kind of numbers it will be putting down...let's just say more than stock.

Because the Northstar isn't a good engine over 100k. It impossible to work on, and there are no mods.

I sure hope so.

It will be interesting to do some "comparative driving" once you get this up and running. I'd bet it's real close...

i was wondering why you would want to take this on in the first place? isnt the GXP faster then an L67 car anyways. also why not sell the GXP and buy a GTP that already has a L67? GTP's are cheaper anyways. i bought my 2000 GTP for under $4k

He's had SSEi's. He wanted to build the "ultimate" 00+ Bonne, and the Northstar is a bad engine for modding and longevity. This one came up, and it made the perfect car to do this to.

And Andrew deals exclusively in Bonnevilles. I don't think he'd build a GTP. ;)

whats the difference between a GXP bonneville and an SSEi besides the engine?

Everything, upgraded suspension, brakes, wheels, exhaust, interior is different as well
Headlights and taillights bumpers and side skirts are all unique to gxp and 2005 sle only

A bolts ons/pulley L67 car will wipe the floor with a Northstar everywhere but the highway.

But eaven then, only at high speed. I would guess close to a 100mph & higher the northstar would start to take over. Right?

I would imagine an L67 would need at minimum a 3.4 pulley + associated supporting mods to get with the Northstar up top. A cam will beat it, I'm certain. With only the Corsa exhaust on my 04, I was still able to edge out the top end on Booze's 2001 SSEi with 3.6/headers/FWI/tune during some comparative driving. He still set the faster quarter mile time. The full mile race would go to the GXP.

Andrew should have no problem! :beerchug:

Does the GXP govern out higher? After a full mile I think an SSEi would be maxed out haha

nope they shipped with the same speed rating Goodyear RS-As from the factory.

the GXP speedo goes higher, but that does not mean the car does

The claim is the power characteristics are different between the two engines. Northstar is a high rpm screamer, where the L67 is a mid range slugger. One gets it moving better, one keeps it moving better.

I just read the update showing the intercooler install. Excellent job Andrew!
I really like the radiator mounting set-up.
If I ever decide to spend more money on the Bullet to make it 1 second faster in the quarter, I will follow your install and be asking for more specifics. =D>

I'd be interested to know your IA temperture readings after the car is warmed up. How long does it take to heat soak the coolant?

I was just looking through this section to remember a few things and to look at what people have done for performance, but WOW! the engine build alone is spectacular, I could only dream to achieve the amount of detail work that you put into the engine, and the mechanical mods are also impressive. But to swap it all over to a car with a v8 in it originally is quite a load to take on. I'm curious to know if you've been able to get this car tuned at all and what kind of numbers its capable of laying down on the pavement? How's the daily drivability of this car as well? Congrats on the baby as well, even though its pretty late, I understand that they're a lot of work, all my friends are having kids and I never see them anymore, lol.

This also goes without saying, but the engine build alone is definitely an inspiration to all who see it. I hope to add a handful of these mods to my bonne some day, as long as this one lasts this time around.

In my estimation Andrew's is a low 13 high 12 sec car. Much faster than the V8 it replaced. Mine runs low to mid 13's....with traction tires.
The V8 is a mid 14 sec car at best and a bit heavier on the front end to the detriment of handling.

I don't know if there will ever be a meet where the majority of us would be able to make it, but I would love to see this car in person. The pictures are fantastic and the whole build is definitely one of a kind, but I get the distinct feeling seeing this car up close is the only way to do it justice.
Big props all the way on the ultimate Bonneville hot rod!
