Autozone wheel hub and LIM compatability questions
First, what is the quality of the Autozone Wheel hubs? They are $89 there. Are they any good?
Second, what years, makes, etc are there that I can get a LIM from that is exactly the same? Willwren suggested there may be a difference in sizes of EGR port fittings ore something. I will be putting the APN UIM kit on top of it once I'm done porting. I can get one off of ~97 era GPs from u-pull-it yards for cheap. Otherwise they can be expensive.
Thanks

Re: Autozone wheel hub and LIM compatability questions
I personally purchased the AZ Timken wheel hub about a month ago. I bought it since it was a Timken (made in USA) and was cheaper than what Napa and Advanced had to offer.
I haven't had any problems yet.

Re: Autozone wheel hub and LIM compatability questions
Wheel hub: Timken = good; anything else = likely to be less good.
LIM: 95-98 L36 uses 3/4" OD EGR stovepipe; 99-05 L36/L26 is 5/8" OD EGR stovepipe. Otherwise, the LIMs are in every way identical. The APN UIM kit you're ordering includes reduced-diameter stovepipes in both base-OD sizes, so 95-05 will not matter to you as far as fitment; however, the older the LIM is, the more likely that the flanges will be pitted from coolant contact, so bear that in mind.

I believe that AZ stands for AutoZone.Metz wrote:I personally purchased the AZ Timken wheel hub
And I agree that the Timkens are fine. That's what I used.
Or if you want, you can buy the AC Delcos from RockAuto for over $200 each. Your call.

Re: Autozone wheel hub and LIM compatability questions
I bought one for my grand prix from advanced and it lasted about 3 months. Took it back and they exchanged it. I have had it on about 6 months and no problems
I also bought one for my SSEI from National Tire and Battery who did the install (wife did it while I was away boo hoo) That one was defective immediatly. We found that out by her taking it to a pontiac dealer and they replaced it. The dealer supplied has been on for about a year and no problems yet.
I get back in town and had to arm wrestle the NTB manager just to get my money back for the part let alone the labor.

I'd put on the UIM by APN now called I Need Partsgrandprix104 wrote:First, what is the quality of the Autozone Wheel hubs? They are $89 there. Are they any good?

I used a dorman when I did mine a year and half ago. But I like the steel sleeve on the APN.

DONT BUY THE CHEAP ONE @ AZ. I bought 2 of the cheap ones only got 5k out of one and 8k out of the other. I'd get the timkens or the costly O.E. hubs. You get what you pay for with hubs.
INTENSE 3.4 mps, High flow cat, AEROFORCE scan gage, NGK TR-55, 180* drilled stat, K&N dropin in gutted airbox.

Re: Autozone wheel hub and LIM compatability questions
I think I have decided on getting the hub from intense. I can get a hub and TRE (also bad) for the price of just the hub at AZ.
I have already ordered the APN kit and the Aluminum gaskets. I also took the easy way out and bought agrazela's old ported LIM.
To answer my original question: The LIM is the same for earlier era 99- engines with the exception of the EGR fitting. The EGR on the old LIM is 3/4" and the new is 5/8". If you buy the APN kit it will not matter as both are included.

Re: Autozone wheel hub and LIM compatability questions
I've been running an Intense hub on the left front for about a year, without any problem. The RF is a $200+ NAPA hub that has a bad WSS that just showed up. It's about the same age.
