annoying loud whining noise from engine bay

Post by Phyrestorm »

It's really loud, annoying and bothering me...

Right when I start the car it happens, at idle it'll whine when i accelerate it'll get louder.

Car runs just fine it's just that *dang* whine! Was happening before the transmission was rebuilt and still after.

Things I need to fix is the Oil Pressure Sending Unit and a CV Axle, all that I know of so far...

That's very unlikely on an SSEi. The PCV is captured inside the supercharger and isn't prone to the same noise as the L36 when that o-ring is missing. Don't let that stop you from checking, though, but I've personally never heard it on an SSEi. Fairly common after UIM/PCV maintenance on an L36 though.

Is it RPM or speed related? You may need to remove one belt at a time and drive a short distance to help narrow it down. Idler pulley bearing failure is quite common.

i had a similair noise from the sounds of it, turned out my noise was the a/c compressor. my a/c wasn't working anyway so i took all the a/c components out and put in the bypass bracket from zzp.
engine #3 is under construction!

I did change the PCV Valve myself and put a new O ring so I know it's not that but I'll check it out tonight.

It seems to be RPM related the higher the RPMs the louder it becomes or the whine is louder or higher pitch hard to explain i might just record the sound, it's really bad ugh.

How much would a Idler Pulley Bearing run up to if it was done by a mechanic? Or is it pretty easy to DIY?

The idler will come with the bearing. They are not separate. They're pretty easy to replace. The hardest part of it all is to fine which one is making the noise.

Troubleshoot for short periods by removing one belt at a time (if supercharged) or THE belt for a short period. If the noise goes away, it's something on the belt path.
