If the cam spun a bearing it won't come out, you will have to pull the bearing carcus out. its soft, it will just flex.
Connecting rod bearings are obvious, they clunk like a SOB...
Crank bearings are also sneaky like cam bearings.

Actually it is Orange, but yeah it is my parking ball. Right now it is serving as a spacer between the glass and the hood. Not out yet. Have to go to work now.

Don't feel too bad. It took me a solid week to get the 94 engine out and stripped down by myself. Another week to put it back in.

Wish I were there to help you.

Wish I had some help too. Oh well. Gives me time to double and triple check everything, do some cleaning and painting, etc. I've only worked on it for a few hours and it is ready to come out. Now I just have to get an engine hoist from someone to borrow and yank it out.

I know cash is short but have you considered popping on a 3000 stall torque converter?
Ya, right, you have enough to work on without more mods.....

It's really got me considering hanging up my Aeroforce and driving like I want it to last another 8 years. It hasn't even gone on its maiden trans am run yet.

I really wish I had the money to do that. Like I said. This may sit here for a few months like this until I can pay for it. Guess I will be getting in good shape and saving a lot of gas money by riding my bike everywhere :)

have a 3k stall TC and wished I had gotten a 2600 rpm stall TC. The 3K or my gears just isn't very friendly around town, its like the car's always ready to race.

I also wish i could help, that's the part I like too, the engine work.

Be safe..

That's an excellent point Tom.

I knew a guy many years ago who sold his hemi cuda after he installed a 3k stall TC. :angry7:

Everything is a compromise so maybe if one wants a streetable driver one should stay with the stock 2400 stall. I couldn't imagine launching at 3000 rpm with this trani. :eek2:

Yeah, it is still my wife's daily driver so I better keep it a little modest for now. Some day I will build a race only car and then it won't matter how it streets around  Someday :sad5: . As sucky as this is, it is kind of fun to tear her down again and work from the bottom up. Sounds weird, but I like to play I guess.

Me too!!!!

As for Thomas's comment on the 3k stall converter, I'm running a 3250 in my impala and it's pretty manageable on the street. Drives pretty normal. I only have 3.29 gearing though, I think Thomas has 3.69 gearing.

Its a little different in the N/A cars from what I understand though Joe. It is a lot more streetable in your car for some reason.

That's right Jared. The SC engine has far more torque so the stall speed will be a lot higher than with an NA engine.

Well got it pulled out. Still don't know what the cause is, but it definately isn't a cam bearing. Most like a rod. Looks pretty good. I'll probably be able to salvage the block at least.

I'll bet that's not quite the ammount of torque you are looking for though.

Well I spent all night pulling apart and cleaning stuff trying to find the cause. I still haven't found anything that I would call "catostrophic". I mean what does a spun bearing look like. I have a few shavings and a couple that are a little trashed, but would that cause what I am hearing? Still haven't gotten to the crank bearings. Pistons all look great, no issues at all with any of them. Rods all look straight.

And I cleaned up the engine bay a little too:

After:

Alright, here are the rest of the bearings from the crank. What do you see? Not extremely ugly, but it looks like maybe one or two of them had rotated just enough to block the oiling holes?

Spent most of the day yesterday scrubbing grease and dirt off parts and painting stuff that I have to swap over to the new block. That way when the block gets here all I have to do is clean it and paint it and bolt everything together. By the way, I need someone to send me the torquing pattern for the heads please.

Heads and engine block will be red
Image
Accessory brackets and pulley brackets will all be black

New block is here and I have started to spruce it up a bit too. Went with a L36 block. (I already know most people's opinions on it, I've done my research, this is what I want to go with.) Hoping to get the heads back on tonight.

Been working on the block last night and this morning before I had to go to work this afternoon. Got the cam switched over, block painted, head surfaces cleaned and prepped as well as the block, timing chain set switched over, front cover and balancer reinstalled, installed new valve seals, put the springs back on, cleaned the pistons and valves, installed the head studs after wrapping them in teflon tape, and switched over the pulley brackets.
