Transmission finally took a ****

Post by Phyrestorm »

So yeah I knew this day would come, as my transmission got worse and worse it finally took a crap on me... Was at a red light and accelerated and just imagine hearing a bunch of gears just completely grind away and break under pressure and shattering it sounded horrible :sad5: after that no forward or reverse at all... afraid to drop the pan lol...

GOOD NEWS, I was an idiot and completely forgot my car has a warranty and it says it covers "ALL LUBRICATED PARTS IN TRANSMISSION" including the torque converter, and other parts that escapes me, I'm at work right now and don't have the documentation with me...

But can anyone define LUBRICATED PARTS? Does this include the solenoids etc... etc...? Before I tow my car to a tranny shop would like to know kind of...

I'd say you are pretty much covered. I can't think of a non-lubricated part in the tranny.

Awesome!

Will a transmission rebuild probably be covered by the warranty you think?

Maybe not so much the labor, but all the parts should be covered.

There is probably about $500 in labor.

Check your warranty carefully, many "aftermarket" (non manufacturer) have what is called a pre-existing condition clause, with most having a waiting period of 90+ days or 3000 miles. When I bought my car in Feb.'08 it came with a 24 month 24,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. My tranny went out within 30 days and the warranty company denied the claim. My freind at my local pontiac dealer told me that most of the warranty companies are the same. My warranty was issued by The Warranty Group, one of the biggest out there. Just be careful where you go, and read the fine print. Also e-bay had a 4t65ehd from a 2003 SSEi with less than 5000 miles on it for 510.00, the item has ended but he still has it, the item number is 110314452959, and it will fit 2000-2003 SSei's. The name is dahmerpower, hope this helps. Good luck.

Keep me posted on how that works with the warranty company. I have what sound like the exact same warranty and I'm curious to see how they pay out. Mine is from "Amerigard" and seemed like a steal for $795 considering it is good for 60 months or 75K miles and covers trans, motor and supercharger!

A 2003 Trans won't work for an 01 car. Too many differences.

Here's an update if anyone that was interested...

Aftermarket Warranties have a lot of gray areas and can be retarded, but still beneficial and help in the cost to repair things to a certain extent of course.

Right now I am currently getting my transmission rebuilt for $760, the warranty states that it will only repair the part that FAILED but not other parts that break/fail due to the ORIGINAL PART FAILING so what this means is they'll cover for the labor to tear down and identify the part that failed and if they deem that part covered by the warranty they'll pay for the part and labor to fix it, but if the part wasn't covered, I would of been stuck with paying the labor for the tear down to identify the problem and also the part to fix and labor to put it back together.

I lucked out and the part was covered, so while the transmission was apart the shop suggested getting it rebuilt and it seemed like a logical decision and now it was rebuilt and going to just fine so far, hopefully this will last me another say 100k lol.
