'98 check engine light is on, but don't know codes or method

Post by Yoshicoby »

My check engine light is still on as of this afternoon, and I don't know how to diagnose it... I couldn't find the info on here for a 98 (or close to). The car is running fine, all fluids are full, and it appears all my vacuum lines are connected properly. I disconnected the battery for ten minutes and its still on. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or the method and codes for "counting the blinking light". I thought I had this info before, but must have lost it. Feelin kinda dumb about it too... Thanks.

The "blinking codes" is only for 93 or earlier. You need a OBD2 scanner in order to read the codes.

Autozone or similiar will read the codes for free (and try to sell you new parts)

Report back here after you have the code.

okay, guy at auto zone said P0442 came up. he said probably gas cap. I filled my tank, screwed gas cap about 5-6 clicks, and check engine light still on. only drove it about a mile though.

try cleaning the surface where the gas cap contacts the metal. is it rusty at all?
