My haro-car.

Post by Hans »

yeah....so after working on it all day I think its worth more than I paid.

Car - $200
Radiator Hose - $17.68
Spark Plugs - $10.24
Oil Change - $18.48
Air filter - $8.93
Battery - $21.39 (Original was under pro-rated warranty)

Total: $276.72

Runs and drives pretty good, 184k or so. Cold AC, and heater works good. No leaks. Yeah...no leaks.

already have a potential buyer with a $300 down payment and payments of $100 a month.

She also may trade in her broken car (88 corsica) as part of the deal. I'm not sure what its worth but we'll see.

She cant get financing, even from a shady used car lot so I figure I can help. However due to the fact that I think I can get roughly $800 for the car right now, the financed price will be around $1200 (18% APR, comparable to a lot of high risk credit cards)

Sounds risky, but even if she defaults, you're still up $23.28...

Thats a great buy, but I'd feel *dang* guilty for selling that to a friend for $1200 when you are trying to "help them out".

I'd say its worth more like $750

How much was the title change?

As far as feeling guilty, this girl is not really a friend of mine, but a x-girlfriends friend and I highly doubt I will see more than a couple payments, as long as I get around $700-$800 I think we are good. She is a friend to the point where I dont have her phone number..if that clears it up. Probably helpful to get if she wants the car I guess though.

The best part is the SSEi plates

That one actually looks to be in pretty decent shape, good luck with the flip!
How many miles are on it?

I wish it was like that over here. Its usually around $100 minimum, I remember paying $470 to transfer my 00 SSEi back in the day. It was $152 to transfer the 00 SE, and $88 to transfer the 96 SSEi

There are quite a few variables on how much a car costs to register.

In Florida, it goes on weight, or a weight-class rather. Sales tax is based on the state-level instead of county, and is based on the actual sale price of the vehicle on the title being transferred. Around here, many of us put a much lower sales price on the title than was agreed on, just to save on the tax. That's only if the car has already been registered in Florida though. There is a different method, and more expensive, on when a car comes from out of state.

It's tax based on how much the vehicle cost.

Seems to be that way. In Ontario, you pay 8% provincial sales tax on either the purchase price or the wholesale price, whichever is greater. For the 95 for me it was:

Based on a "$900" purchase price (you can tell them whatever, but if you're too far off they'll go by wholesale, which was $975):

$72 = 8% tax on $900
$78 License plate sticker per year -- add $60 if you're in the Toronto city limits.
$70 safety test - varies by who does it for you
$30 e-test (which PeterG did for me)

So you're looking at $250 there, minimum. I could be forgetting other stuff too. Ouch

was the normal fees (tax title) about 50$ then a 200$ fee to transfer from out of state.. and then if it was bought in the last 6 months then u have to pay taxes on it AGAIN... (wtf) was like 260$ to get out of state title..

instate is less then 50$
