'05 GXP DIC reset
the Owner's manual says to select the mode you want to reset, i.e., oil life, gallons used, gas mileage, etc. then press and hold the reset button for five seconds. I wonder why some selections will not reset (those mentioned).

Gallons used, Gas Mileage, Oil Life, etc., all can be reset in my car by holding the button.

Re: '05 GXP DIC reset
I often have to rapid fire reset about 20-25 times before the particular indicator will reset. I've tried holding it for various times, and the only thing that works is the rapid fire pressing until it actually resets.
Re: '05 GXP DIC reset
??? Wierd. Like Haro said, mine takes about 10-15 seconds holding the button in firm.

Seems strange for it to take so long. Mine usually takes ~10 seconds.

Re: '05 GXP DIC reset
thanks for the tips guys. I tried them .. held the reset button for 30+ seconds, rapid fire pressing the reset button.... but still cannot reset gallons used, oil life, or even recallibrate the compas... will probably need to take it back to the dealer .. ouch!

Re: '05 GXP DIC reset
When it works right, mine resets in about 5 seconds, although it seems like longer than that. But I've had trouble on and off with the reset since I got the car at 7k miles. Of course it worked fine when I pointed it out to the dealer. There were times I could not reset it for a few weeks, then it was fine for a month or more. The rapid fire deal followed by holding the button in worked sometimes, but not always. I've discovered that pushing and holding it hard has consistently worked for quite a while now. Seems like that might not help the switch any, but that's what it takes for mine.
I'd suggest popping out the switch for a look-see and some testing before paying the dealer, but that's a personal choice. Probably all they are going to do is replace the switch anyway, so if you can do that yourself, it might be worth buying and installing the switch.

Re: '05 GXP DIC reset
I got mine replaced during a regular oilchange. Since I am still under warranty, it did not cost anything
But they have been done in less than half an hour and such a little switch can't cost very much. I would assume a couple bucks at most.

I'm assuming they have to replace the whole panel for the buttons, and it's probably $50, since it's a stealership.Pontiac4Life wrote:I got mine replaced during a regular oilchange. Since I am still under warranty, it did not cost anything

Re: '05 GXP DIC reset
FYI I just had mine replaced at the dealer because of the same problem. They do have to replace the whole module and it was a part that had to be ordered. It cost me $120.00. I don't know if I got ripped or not but it's fixed!
