9005 for low beams

I did this mod today... took 20 minutes. I turned on the lights after one was done. It was a big difference! Havent tried them at night yet, but it should be sweet. I need to make sure they're aimed right.

there are other cars that use the 9005 as a low beam... you just need to make sure they are aimed right, and you will be fine.

They are, but we put high beam lights in the low beam side. I did the light change(was one of the first to do this) 4 years ago and the difference in(light) output is about 70% (1700 lumens vs 1000 lumens). Not a single car has flashed there lights at me in 4 years. Just make sure your light's are adjusted right and be sure the new bulbs are in all the way. I would never go back to the stock(9006) bulb, EVER.
You have two different lens, one for the high beam and one for the low beam. Park your car 15 to 20 feet from a wall and have your lights on low, you will see that the beam of light will not be very high(2 to 3 feet) then turn the high beams on and the light will be higher on the wall and it will shine farther down the road. There is a cut off on the low beam lens so the light will not blind oncoming traffic. The down side of that is that the light will not light up the road very far in front of your car. That is why when you put the brighter light's on your low side it lights up the road better than the stock bulb but it WON'T light up the road as good as your high beam's will. I put a cheap($8) set of GE 9005 lights in the low beam side and they were a lot brighter than the 9006 Silverstar's that I had in the car at the time. Just modify the light's(2 of them) like the post i put up.

I would put the SilverStar Ultra bulbs in the HIGH side and put an standard high beam bulb(9005) in the low side. I did this because I don't like to be driving on a mountain road at night and have a light burn out, the lights that are in my car(low beam side) are 4 years old and still put out good light.

I'm confused.... That link is for a BMW mod. How does that apply to the Bonneville?

I did this on my 97 SSEi. Had to do some funky trimming of the inner plug connection on the bulb itself. There is a garder piece in there to prevent you from doing this. I machined it out.
Works AWESOME....for the three times i have drove the bonneville since July.

My 9005's(that I put in the low beam side) have been on the car for 4 or 5 years and I have not lost a light yet, and we have over 175,000 miles on the car now. In fact the 9005's that I took out of the high beam side(when I put the SSU's in) are my spare bulbs and they were in the car when I bought my car new in 2000.

Our 2500HD truck has big fog lights on it, and every once in a while, i get flashed while driving at night, so i flash them back. One night that happened, and then the person turned on their brights, so i did too, LOL.

I also did this mod....I'll NEVER use a standard low beam bulb again. Install takes 15 mins or less with a good sharp knife. Do this mod....it works.

I drive 20 miles daily at night, 5 days a week, and never once got flashed high beams.

I did this earlier this weekend. Broke out the Dremel and went to town on the cheapest 9005's at Wally World (GE packaged bulbs that turned out to be re-packaged Wagner bulbs).

You guys are right, there is more light. Much more than the XtraVision 9006 bulbs taken out. And it's more usable light. Saw road signs lit up from further away, extended beam reach down the road, and more light on the right shoulder. Haven't gotten flashed, either.

Here's hoping they don't burn out quickly.
