Thanks John, I got bored and did it today, took lots of pics too :P

still your write up was about 115x better then "GRRRR8's"


EDIT: I would put the rubber vents back in, one guy did a test with them in and out in the rain, and showed that with them out you whole engine gets covered in water and gets all spotty.
here's my write up on the hood mod.

I can see in your pic that you forgot to pull the deflector sheild, thats the biggest restriction on the vents, I never took a pic for that step, but once you have the vents off you'll see them :wink:

By "covers", I meant the deflector shields. The rubber things went back in after I popped the shields off. That pic was just to show the view through them.

For all the difference between with and without the intake cover, one wonders WHY? Why did they bother with the intake cover to start with? Am I missing something? It certainly doesn't have much visual difference from the pictures I see.

It's not cosmetic. If it were, they wouldn't have put on the big ol engine cover (not seen in those pics). With the cover off, i hear some more intake noise... they've done a lot to keep the car as a whole quiet. And it may be there to keep intake air warmer for emissions purposes or something.

Even the engine cover has half an inch of foam rubber on the back (not as dense as the foam on the intake cover). I took it off probably two hours after driving and it was pretty warm, and everything under it was even warmer.

Not that I've heard. I can only imagine removing it would lower any KR a bit. Neither has anyone complained of a CEL from extended engine warm up time or emissions faults.

There is a lot to be said for a quiet car.

I can't believe how quiet the stock 94 SSEi is compared to the Bullet. It is sooo much more relaxing to drive the Grizz! :)

Your car used to be that quiet... I noticed the same thing when I drove my 00 parts car. The headers really make things loud.

Just a fyi, G8s have the dreaded black box. So if you do any mods and need warranty work done, make sure you drive it for 30 minutes after you switch back to stock.

If you should experience a problem with your dealership, you should direct your dealer representative to the Federal Trade Commission regarding the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act. For more information about this law and your rights as an aftermarket consumer, you may visit http://www.ftc.gov or contact your vehicle manufacturer. SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) is also very active in protecting aftermarket consumer rights. We encourage you to visit the official SEMA website at http://www.sema.org for more information. I really doubt any dealers will use that for voiding warranty work, atleast on a large scale. As mentioned by Peter, the Magnusson-Moss act protects consumers as well. Only problems caused by an aftermarket part will not be covered under warranty. For example, a coil-over kit doesn't void the warranty on the engine.
