Hey! I see you're using some pretty interesting wiring. So, you're sticking with the relay as an isolator? Seems good, so let us know how that goes. I'm really excited to see the results. Another thing I see here is you're using what I think are aluminum 4GA Monster wires, right? I don't know if you've run this yet to test it, but I'd really like to know the result and how you think it all works.

Caleb, some trucks and a whole lot of RVs (or all of them?) come with two (or more) batteries. An isolator is needed so that one battery doesn't drain the other. The setup here is a relay that senses when the ignition is on, and it closes a circuit between the two batteries. If you put your car in the ON position and leave it like that without the engine running, one battery will drain the other, and they'll drain. With the engine running, you suppose that the alternator puts out more current than the two batteries, so they charge rather than letting out power. Other isolators actually work differently in that they always isolate power, and they make sure that current only flows one way. The alternator goes to the isolator, and then each battery attaches to that. Either way works since few people leave their car in the ON position for long periods of time. Aside from that, 88bonnsse had to get a heavier duty alternator that could handle the load of charging both batteries. It's otherwise pretty easy, I think. I had a dual battery setup, but the trunk battery died because even though it was a lawn and garden battery, I used it to start the car with a failing front battery. Then, the OE alternator acted strangely, died, and took the front battery with it. If you do it right, though, it will work well. Very few people need to do it simply because it's hard to find something that uses so much power. I'm looking to run 1200W RMS through my speakers in the 94, and I'm only going to use one battery.

all my wire is big fat zero gauge.. not 4...

and yes i will be using the stinger 200 amp isolator to run dual batteries..


and honestly its not hard at all to run an isolator hook up for a second battery..

its just like running amplifier wires and then finding the best place to mount the isolator.. that it. then your done..

My install is pretty good, though one may not expect much. I have a lot of the rear deck redesign worked out, and I ran a 5GA wire exclusively for my Infinity 4-channel amp. I have a couple capacitors, and most of the speaker wiring is done. I just need to run another power wire for my other amp and put in some more speaker wires.

first what amp do you have for that sub and watts the rms at what ohm load..?

and second i would say yes it would be fine as long as your battery has 800 to 1000 cca amps and your alternator is atleast 140 amps... you should be fine with lil to no dimming of the lights...

im not real sure on what amp im getting yet it will problaly be around 1000-1500 watts the guy said that the sub will bump with only 800-1000 watts but when you get it up to 1500 its gets really loud so i will buy a cheap amp until i get my promotion then ill get a good 2000 watt amp. and the alt. should be over 140 ill check.

if you have the stock alternator is should be no higher then 140 amp as thats the biggest stock alternator made...

Aftermarket alternators are rated at 160A, 200A, and so on. I haven't seen more than one 200+A alternator, but they do exist. They'll just bog down your engine a lot more, though.
