You have to go from the top, from inside the car. You can either pull the speaker grills off, or remove the whole back cover.

I don't know that the grills come off the dash very nicely. Its best to remove the back dash to get to it.

Use a large flat blade screwdriver inserted from the top down behind the seat back. There are 4 clips that need to be pushed down and then the seat back will pop out.

The rear dash comes out after you remove the C-pillars and the 2 push in connectors.

Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear .
Remove the center seat belt and outer shoulder belt buckle anchor fasteners.
Lift the center shoulder belt off of the seat back and store on the rear shelf panel.
Using a straight-bladed screwdriver, insert the screwdriver between the top of the seat back and rear of the shelf panel.

Push down on the screwdriver in order to release the rear seat back retainers.

Release the 4 retainers and pull the seat back away from the cross car beam.
Position the rear shoulder belts in order to clear the rear seat back.
Pull the seat away from shelf panel far enough to pull the pass-through release cable through the opening.

Push the seat back firmly in order to engage the center clips and then the outer clips.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Important
Ensure that the fastener threads and fastener holes are free of any sealer patch material.

Install the center seat belt and outer shoulder belt buckle fasteners. Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 41 N·m (32 lb ft).

good info and pics there.

i will add, i was able to replace mine without pulled the rear seat out. You can gain access to the push retainers for the rear deck by simply pulling on the rear seat tops and then pulling the retainers out. Once these are out, you will need to pull the rear side pillars...then i was able to lift the rear deck out and gain access to rear 6X9s.

Very good idea.. I would have never thought of that. Plus, you get to keep the padding to sit on while you work!

Are these instructions at all similar to pre-00 Bonnevilles? I'm interested in doing the same exchange on my 99. Where did you find these instructions?

Thanks.

The 99's are easy to do, dive in the trunk and there you go. Although I can get to mine by removing the speaker grills.

None of that above crap needed to do this on a 97 Bonn.
Don't know nuthin' bout no instructions but, on my 97 Bonn SE with deluxe radio and EQ, I simply popped off
the grills (with a plastic pry bar) off the top of the speakers, then its easy. Just 4 little 1/4" hex head screws to remove the speaker.

phils97bonn, it will be helpful to look at the date of posts in the future. You just responded to someone from 17 years ago ;)
