Hi all, Have a friend with a 99 Bonneville with the 3800 in it that just refuses to start, It will keep cranking but just wont start. Security light turns off after a few seconds, if you keep cranking it will pop here and there like it wants to start and then keeps cranking.
What I've done so far is verify spark (orange spark), verified that the wires were in the correct order which were correct, verified fuel pressure 45 psi key on engine off, around 40-41 cranking, getting voltage at injectors, RPM's move when cranking which I believe indicates the crank sensor is working, did a compression test on one cylinder (cyl 5) and got around 105 PSI which i think is low but i think that may be in spec based off what I read online. I feel like that's low, obviously still need to check the other cylinders to see if anything else may be wrong. Unplugged MAF and Coolant temp sensor to see if that would help which it didn't. I'm lost. He purchased the car from an older person who said it died one day.
First thing I did check before doing all this was to see if there was oil in it, well there was but it was extremely overfilled, I think I drained out at least 8 quarts out of the engine till it was at the proper level, unsure if they drove it that way. I'm lost at this moment. I don't know this platform very well.
Any insight?

You verified fuel pressure at the rail and 12v at the injectors, but that doesn't mean they are getting injector pulse. They are a ground side switch. You can use a small #94 bulb with the terminals bent straight and stuck into an injector connector. The bulb should flash while cranking. When you pulled the plugs, are they wet with fuel? Have you tried some starting fluid to see if it pops off?

Compression is way lower than I'd like to see, but should still try to run.

What I’ve done since your reply.Got a 194 bulb and connected it to the injector connector which made the bulb pulse, hooked up some alligator clips to one injector which made an audible click(tested multiple times) when modulating the throttle while cranking I get pops and the engine does try to catch and will start catching at a faster rate while popping but never successfully fires.still get fuel released from the shrader valve and fuel on the plugs.harofreak00 wrote:You verified fuel pressure at the rail and 12v at the injectors, but that doesn't mean they are getting injector pulse. Re: 99 Bonneville Crank No Start
If fuel is on the plugs its probably flooded out. You can try "clear flood mode" by pushing the gas pedal all the way to the floor (stops injectors from firing) and crank on it for 10-15 seconds. Then try to start as normal, possibly feathering the gas if it needs it.
The other option would be to pull all the plugs, crank for a few seconds and then either install new plugs or make sure the are dry.
