2000 SLE No start after replacing coils and ICM

Post by slanej »

Yeah. So the car won't start. Here's a list of what I've done on the lead-up to this condition:

1. Replaced the ICM, coils and plugs since I was getting an SES light and P0300 code. Found a bad coil. Cleared all codes.
2. Replaced the battery since the neg side post stripped when reconnecting the battery.
3. Engine now cranks but won't catch.
4. When key is in ON position, SECURITY light goes off after about ten seconds.
5. Checked the fuel pump fuse. That's OK.
6. With the key in the ON position, can hear the fuel pump whir as if engaging.
7. There is fuel in the tank.
8. No stored or pending codes when I rechecked.
9. Engine still cranks but won't catch.

So I'm at a loss on where to go next. Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need to verify fuel and spark. See if you have fuel at the Schrader valve on the rail. Pull the spark plug wires off at the coils and check to see if you have blue arcing on all 3 coils.

Harofreak:

Can you elaborate on your coil pack test? I've never done this before and I don't want to eff anything up.

Remove all 6 spark plug wires from the top of the coils, leave the wires hanging.
Have someone help you try to start the car while you watch the coils.
You should see nice blue zap coming from each coil grounding out to itself.
The only think you could eff up would be trying to touch the arc, it would hurt
If you have no spark, you potentially have a bad Ignition Control Module or Crankshaft Position Sensor. I see new parts bad out of the box all the time. Did you go with OEM or cheap Chinese aftermarket?

You should also check that you have the wires in the correct order.
