I hope I don't get chastised for this 2007 Lucerne CXL

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

I hope I don't get chastised for this 2007 Lucerne CXL

Post by rynmcdonald »

Just got this car and it has 78k miles. Guy told me that it doesn't have forward. Confirmed this by seeing that the forward band is broken. I did find some other interesting things inside..... some of the teeth on the dual planetary gearset scarred and the sun gear has chipped teeth.... ALSO.... the final drive... one of the planet gears has a chipped tooth on it.

Now the BIG mystery that's been scramblnig my mind.... is there supposed to be any wiggle or play in the final drive ring gear? Because there is with this unit. ALSO also... what transmissions will interchange with this car or rather, what would the final drive RPO code be? I know my 2005 Bonneville is F83 so I am wondering what the code would be for this one.

Please any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Out of curiosity, does this CXL have the Northstar? Their 4T80-E transmissions tend to blow up around 80k miles, from what I've seen.

No it is NOT the N* and I am certainly glad for it. It's the 3.8 L and I think the last year they were used.

http://www.gmtuners.com/transmission/ only goes up to 2006 for some reason

Looking around on https://www.car-part.com it looks like they interchange with nothing, only 2007 Lucerne CXL 3.8. The ones I saw had the PA tag, which means 2.86 ratio.

If its a 2.86 that means it has a 35:35 gearset. So if you find a 4t65-e of the same year with a 3.05 or 3.29 you *may* be able to swap your differential in and be good to go. The 2 variables are external mounting provisions, which you can easily check, and any internal wiring differences, which you could compare resistances pin to pin at the connector.
