Re: Rac modlue
Will having the Remote Accessory Controller module unhooked keep the car from starting?

I am not sure on those someone else will have to chime in.

Re: RAC module
Yes, it will. The RAC controls power locks and trunk release (in parallel with the car's own manual controls for the same items), and maybe the Security system as well. It doesn't have any input into engine operation or driving that I have noticed.Mitchell77 wrote:Will the car start without the RAC module connected?
Having said that, I did notice when I had mine disconnected that my dash gauges and HVAC temperature display were not working, but I can't swear that it was the RAC being unplugged that did that -- I may have had one or two other fuses unplugged as well. But yes, the engine would crank and run without the RAC.
P.S. I think the RAC for the Bonneville SE or LE might have two connectors on the RAC at opposite ends: one white and one blue. The one in my SSEi has three: one white and two blue. (I think the key difference is whether the car has Remote Keyless Entry, option AU0.) It's mounted vertically, located under the right end of the dash, behind the lower sound deadener panel, to the left of the fuse/relay box down there.
If the RAC is mounted the same way on yours as it is on mine, you will need to extract it from its slide mounting and drop it downward to reach the blue plug(s) on the top end. I don't know the pin layout of the plugs, so I don't know if unplugging only the white plug on the bottom end will really isolate it from the car. You get it out by pressing a black release tab between the RAC case and the bracket to the left of it on which it's mounted. Once the tab is released, you press or wiggle the RAC upward an inch or two until it comes out of its slide mounting, and then you can lower the whole thing down to the floor and reach the blue plug(s) on top.
