Removing reflector from high beam
Has anyone removed the reflector from just the high beam and had good results with either the halogen or and LED 9005 bulb? I see newer vehicles that use the 9005 for high beam don’t have a reflector. 2015 Chevy Silverado HD, 2014 GMC Terrain for examples.

I’m taking apart a pair I got out of the junkyard. I got the 1st one done, took both reflectors out and sealed it back together.

Re: Removing reflector from high beam
The main housing reflector? Or the small bulb cover? I'd guess without the main reflector light output would be as good as a candle. Removing the bulb cover would probably do nothing noticeable as far as light output.

Re: Removing reflector from high beam
Initial results are good after swapping out my drivers side headlight for the one without the “bulb covers”. Seems to be called a "shield". Not talking about the reflector mirrors. Drove home after SB and no dark spots from drivers side. I haven’t been able to get my passenger one out yet. Pulling the heck out of it.

Re: Removing shields from low & high beam
Did a little research and seems they are called shields, which makes sense.

Re: Removing reflector from high beam
Do you really think there is a noticeable difference? If you've only done once you could be able to notice a difference against a wall/garage door.

Re: Removing reflector from high beam
Yes, I have noticed quite a difference between the 2 up against my garage door. I can post a pic showing it. I'll try to get pics of how well it lights down the road as well and how it looks to oncoming cars.harofreak00 wrote:Do you really think there is a noticeable difference? Re: Removing reflector from high beam
It's the high beam, so how it looks to oncoming traffic shouldn't matter.
