Taillight Center Panel

I don't know exactly what that center reflective panel is called, but it looks terrible on my car. I have taken it off to at least try to do something to make it look better. No one makes them aftermarket and the junkyard donors will all look just as bad.
We have gotten the clear lens off with no problem. We got it clean and it looks really good except the stress cracks. Has anyone ever taken the black piece off the reflective lens? I cannot figure out how to get it off without damaging it. I would like to get it off and paint it and clean the lens. Thanks in advance guys.
