Looking for right torque rod for trunk lid on '99 Bonneville

Post by Billha »

Can anyone help me find a right torque rod for the trunk lid on my '99 Bonneville?
It snapped last week, and I can't find a replacement anywhere online.
The part# is 25677962.

I had already replaced the left one after it broke last year. There must have been a bad batch of these parts for the '99.

Thanks.

I got mine at a junkyard for $5.
That was several years ago, and the number of that generation cars
in the junkyards seems to be shrinking. I guess they crush them
after a while as demand for those parts lowers.

I don't stock anything older than 2000, but Bonnevilles are very plentiful in my area. If you want me to pick one up at a salvage yard and and are willing to cover the shipping from MN to CA just send me a PM or email andrew.suderman@gmail.com

Thanks for the offer, harofreak00. I'll look around for a local pick-a-part. If I can't find one, then maybe I'll take you up on that.

Can anyone tell me with certainty if a trunk lid torque rod for a 1995 (with spoiler) will fit and work on a 1999 (with spoiler)?

I've been searching for part number 25677962 for the right side on my 1999 SLE, and I still can't find that part anywhere,.
I'm wondering if part 25634214 which is listed for a 1995 with spoiler will fit and work on my 1999.
According to multiple web site lookups, 25634214 won't fit on a 1999, but that seems odd to me because I would expect the 1995 and 1999 trunk lids and mounting hardware to be the same.
Thanks.

you can measure it, see how its fastened and go to boneyard and find a replacement

I was unable to find the right torque rod after looking online regularly for several weeks.

Solved: Went to the junk yard last weekend and found that part on the only Bonneville they had in that yard.
That donor car was only there for roughly 9 days, and already the left torque rod was already removed from the trunk, so I'm glad I found the one for the right side. Went home and installed the used part, and now the trunk lid pops up and stays open as it should.

Both the left and right torque rods broke at different times on my '99 SLE. I had previously replaced the left one with a brand new one that I found online last year. There must have been a bad batch of those torque rods for the 1999 Bonneville, as I previously owned a 1992 supercharged SSE and a 1993 SSEi, both were purchased used and kept for many years, and none of the trunk lid torque rods ever broke on either of those older Bonnevilles.
