Rack or ps pump

Post by carl »

I thought this had to do with alignment but it didn't correct it. ..everytime I turn the wheel full right to its stop, the steering hits a dead spot and gets stuck until I accelerate out of it. I notice it when pulling out of parking spots no problems ever driving. The power steering pump is only about 5 yrs old and it's not leaking or making any noises. The rack is not leaking either. It's the basic rack with no assist control. Any ideas to single out the rack or pump? Thanks again.

Have you checked to see if you don't have a problem with a lower ball joint hitting a flat spot and having to "jump" out of it? I would check those first before pointing at the newer parts on the car. Power steering pumps usually just whine at full lock due to strain. If the pump is full of fluid, isn't foaming it or making a racket, I'd look at the strut bearings and ball joints first to make sure you weren't hitching on them.
A temporary fix does not exist. It becomes a solution until it needs to be fixed again.
