Squirrel in my heater
Squirrel in my heater
There are literally squirrel's nests clogging my squirrel cage and heater/ac blower motor. I have 2 1994 Bonnevilles. One has been parked outside, unused, most of the winter. When I started it recently the heater fan was extremely loud at first and later returned to normal. The other Bonn was parked outside for a few days last week and yesterday had the same symptoms, except worse. i removed the fan and found the squirrel-cage was clogged with leaves, bits of cloth, etc. When I lifted the blender door for cleaning, it was packed with walnuts! I've cleaned it out as much as I can, and will have to do the same with the other Bonn, but I can't figure out how the squirrels get in there. Anyone have ideas? There is no damage or anything apparently missing in the cowl area, and I don't see any signs of their having been in the passenger compartment.

Re: Squirrel in my heater
Try feeding them a delicious bowl of antifreeze. That should solve the problem pretty quick.

LOL. I hear that. Over the years I've had tons of mice, voles, even chipmunks in my cars. A '67 Lemans I have couldn't even run because of a mouse nest in the muffler. But in this case it's red squirrels, which are pretty good sized. I'm just wondering if there's any other way into the heater than through the cowl or into the ducts from inside. I guess I'm going to have to look the cars over more closely for any holes.

Mice once packed my exhaust with dog food several years ago. I started the car and there was this sudden sound like someone tore open a box of cereal and dumped it all at once. Dog food shot a good 30 feet out! I have video of the aftermath somewhere. The exhaust still kinda smells weird.

I just saw the headline on this and had to laugh...
I'm all about letting them enjoy the sweet taste of coolant.
Or a nice rat trap. Just gotta make sure both are put somewhere where an innocent animal/pet won't get to them.
This video of a squirrel getting snapped by a rat "snap" trap always cracks me up

Re: Squirrel in my heater
MY buddy parked his 87 GTA in a garage for months - we went up north and he fell back so I stopped. opened the hood and there was a mouse/rat nest - his wires were chewed and it missed.
