The end of Pontiac?

Post by TheCollector »

hello everyone

in on wikipedia it says pontiac has has stoped to produce cars in 2010.
i'm kinda in a fight with my bro because he says there are newer models and they make a 2015 pontiac trans am.
i have found a page with some images and rumors about release, but no evidence anywhere about it being on the market.
i guess i was right then and there wont be any new pontiacs?

Pontiac did end in 2010. Anything listed as newer is an aftermarket 5th or 6th gen Camaro made to look like a retro Trans Am.

What he said. Pontiac is gone. It isn't coming back.

Those bastardizations of Trans Am's are as mentioned, aftermarket versions done off of the 5th generation Camaro. They ARE NOT GM produced vehicles.

Those Trans Am's are, as stated above, re-manufactured Camaro's. Trans Am Depot is who modifies the Camaro's to look like modern Trans Am's. Pretty cool, but not mass produced.

I had no idea there were G8's in Europe. I knew Vauxhall brought some Holden's over, but not G8's. Please take lots of pics and the VIN. I'd like to know if it was imported from the U.S. Maybe someone in the Armed Forces brought it over and sold it while stationed in Germany or Italy...

you can directly import a G8 from USA yourself. they are indeed extremeley rare here, i've seen 2 on the market in germany so far. my mechanic also talked about people owning a G8 in switzerland but i've never actually seen one driving around here.

Ed, it isn't a G8 like our "G8's" over here. I think what he is saying is that much like the G8 and SS are the US derivative's of the Holden Commodore and the Caprice is the US version of a Statesman, it is an Opel or Vauxhaul over there.

You cannot legally import them from Australia, in to the U.S. yet and keep it as a DD or something. The car has to be 25 years old before being exempt. What the places like the one in Colorado does, is take G8 VIN#'s, and then use them on cars that THEY convert to Ute's. you CAN bring them here as "show and display" which is what GM did to get them here for testing and what a few Aussie's did for the Hot Rod Power Tour, bringing their own Ute's over here.

This month I have seen 2 new Holden Commodores driving around this part of the world. I could not run along side them to see the VIN (I don't run any more and when I could I couldn't run that fast any way), but what ever they are they were new. - BC

They're Chevy SS's that guys swapped the holden badges onto. They were sold as Genuine Chevrolet accessories at the dealership, lol.

Agreed, the Holden swap is something popular on all (GTO, G8 and SS).

It's not hard for one to do, just a little costly to get all the parts in some cases (like doing the interior parts too).

Yeah, the real trick is getting the MyLink flashed to the Holden setup...

I think the hardest part (or maybe I should say "cost prohibitive"), for the GTO's when doing a Holden conversion, was getting the Monaro digital HVAC headunit. It wasn't just the head unit. It was all the systems that ran it. They were two completely different systems vs. our simple knob setup.

But yea, many cars in the CHC have done conversions of some sort. Lou (GOATCRUISER) had the most complete I believe.

This was from our cruise to Pontiac last summer, that silver SS has not only a Commodore conversion, but also an LSA conversion...
