Reprogramming for different final drive
Reprogramming for different final drive
how exactly does one reprogram the PCM for a new final drive ratio? I'm looking to go from the 2.96 in my 03 SE to the HD diff and axle with a 3.29 ratio

Re: Reprogramming for different final drive
Have someone do a tune for you, letting them know you want different gearing.
Or if you know someone with HPT, it's as simple as changing the value in the box to 3.29.
FYI, you have 2.63 or 3.05 in your SE. More likely to have 2.63. 2.93 is stock for the HD transmissions. Is there a particular reason you are swapping to the HD stuff? It is no more durable than the non-HD stuff. The weak point in the trans is the input shaft, which is identical between the two.

Yeah I meant 2.63. And the reason it would come out to be 3.29 is because in the HD there are 37 drive and 33 driven teeth vs 35 and 35 in the non-HD with the HD diff being a 3.29 giving that ratio rather than 2.93 in the HD application. The reason I'm considering upgrading is because I need a new passenger side axle and differential housing anyway and Andrew from Bonnevilles Unlimited will sell me the HD Diff, Cover, and Axle for 100 bucks.
