Oil Leaks?

Post by kheflw »

Hi all, my '05 GXP is leaking oil from somewhere. I was under it today changing out my Front Impact Sensor, (pain in the ass) but got that done successfully.
Any common places you can suggest where oil leaks are prone to occur on this car?
I was only down about 1 quart, just topped it off, will do an oil change next week I think.

I've actually smelled it occasionally, opened the hood when I got home after a drive a couple weeks ago, but did not see anything up on top. Now that I've been under it you see a lot of oil on the Pan, and other areas. I looked at the drain plug, might be the culprit, (Is there a Gasket on there)? I have not done an oil change on this ride yet, so I dont know.

Oil pan looks to be in perfect shape physically, suppose I could carefully torque the bolts on it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sorry for posting that without doing the standard search first. Looks like an extremely common problem around here. Valve Cover, Oil Cooler Lines, lots to choose from.

I bought this car in August 2016, had a mechanic check it before I bought it. Said the oil looked clean, and that they had probably detailed the car engine area before selling it. Looked very clean.
I checked the oil a couple months ago, but have not changed it yet. So from August to today in March I lost about a quart through leakage and possible burning. Not too bad, as that fits into a standard oil change schedule.

(Excuse me while I try to justify that this really isn't so bad :)

I'll get under there in a week or two to change the oil and see what I can see.

Thanks

Yup, I was about to say "search".

Cam Cover gaskets, oil cooler lines.
