Benefits of using higher octane?
So,as I'm reading the original owners manual on my 97 Bonneville se,I came across the recommended octane gas to use with the minimum octane rating of 87 is to be used or you can get knocking and pinging.My question is,are there any real benefit to using a higher octane such as 89,or 91 rating?I know a lot of companies use the same suppliers.The choices I have here in Columbus Ohio that are close to me are,Bp,shell,Turkey hill,and speedway.I don't mind spending a bit more at the pump,as long as the car benefits from it.

Don't bother if the engine isn't tuned for it. It wouldn't be fully utilized and your mpg will go down.

I had my NA car tuned for 93 octane and the difference was barely perceivable.
A stock, untuned L36 will NOT benefit from any thing else short of 87 octane. Don't waste your money, especially when premium is almost a dollar more than regular in some places.
