Re: trans compatabilty
Depends on how mechanically inclined you are, and what the problem is. What exactly does "died" mean? Won't go into gear at all? Rough shifts? There's a lot of different ways a transmission can fail, and that will help us with the diagnostics. If you're inclined enough, you can tear the Bonneville trans apart, figure out what's wrong, and then get the good parts out of the GTP transmission. The internals are largely the same, it's the cases and potentially the valvebodies that are different.
However, since you're asking an internet forum, I'd guess your mechanical skills aren't up to tearing transmissions apart. So, you'll probably need to find a matching transmission to your car. If you crawl underneath the car, on the passenger side of the transmission by where the axle comes out there's a metal tag that should have a 3 digit code on it. You'll need to find another transmission with that code on it to be a direct swap.

Re: trans compatabilty
I'm pretty mechanically inclined I was just wanting to swap another trans in without trying to rebuild one, from what I understand is my Bonneville has the 2.93 ratio trans and as to the valve body being different how come? seems like both series 2 sc trans would be the same, I ran the vin on my car and then my old gtp in which the trans is in and they both showed to be the same ratio then lastly from what ive been told is if it has the place to bolt my plates on for my mount it will work that's what I'm trying to figure out if anyone has did it?

Re: trans compatabilty
also my trans line got a whole in it,it has a aftermarket intercooler and ran most of the fluid out and I put around 6 quarts in it and checked it and it looked fine then drove it and started sipping and not going once it reached high rpm and then it took off and shifted fine now it lost all forward gears and vibrates the car when you put it in drive but has great reverse still

Re: trans compatabilty
Yeah, you fried the clutches then. Time to tear it apart and rebuild it. You could use the pieces from the GTP trans and make one good trans, just depends on your skills and willingness to take risks.

Re: trans compatabilty
The GTP will most likely not interchange because the 3 mounting points for the rear trans mount are usually (not always I have seen a few different cases in W bodies) not cast into the Trans, so you wouldn't be able to attach your rear trans mount

Re: trans compatabilty
The GTP case IS different solely because where the three mount bolts on the rear. The SSEi case has webbing cast on the case there for rigidity and so it can handle the torque of the engine. If you used the GTP trans in your SSEi it would break those mounting points because the GTP does not have the webbing cast into it.

Re: trans compatabilty
It also could potentially have different valving and things internally, and his PCM could not properly be able to control it. So it's a double-no.
