2000 Bonneville Se, adding trunk release option.

Post by PontiacBonneville »

Hi everybody, I am new to Bonnevilles, I brought one not too long ago, it is an very enjoyable car to drive, just floats down the road, potholes are not very noticeable. I've noticed that in my car there is a spot for a trunk release button. I picked up a trunk release button and a latch for the trunk with an solenoid and a neat glow in the dark handle in case someone is inside needing to get out in an emergency. Hoping that the wiring is already there in the car so I can add it on, but it doesn't seem to be any extra connectors. Is it possible to add a trunk release to my car, has anybody done something like this before? Thank you for reading, have a great day.

Trunk release should be in glove box right? I think it was actually an option to have a trunk release button on an SE of that year which is foolish. I think it's very possible to add a trunk release tho.

Thank you for the quick reply Evan. Yeah I see the spot for the button in the car in the glove box, it is blocked off by a square black plug. That's true, a person would think something like that would come standard, considering the car has bucket seats and the console shift. I'm curious if anyone has some wiring diagrams out there for the dash and the trunk of the car to shed some light on the wiring in the car?

Best way to find out is to tear apart the glove box to see if the harness is there for the button. I would think it would be IMO. If not that might be a deal breaker in adding this to your car. I have no clue what kind of locking mechanism is on your trunk lid, but it might just be easier to find that part in a salvage yard anyways. Let us know what you come up with, or if you have any more questions.

Yeah I'm going to take apart the glove box and take a good look in there to see if the connector is just tucked up in there somewhere. I been reading that this car has a lot of modules to control everything, but I wouldn't think there would have a completely different set up in the wring between having a trunk release and not having one. I will definitely keep you folks posted on how my trunk release is working out.
