so far due to age the following has been changed
alternator
power steering pump
belt tensioner
and have used a 5060725 belt to eliminate AC (new AC on the way )
with out the belt on the motor is smooth running for the time i permit 1 min
but once i apply the belt it sounds like the motor wants to fall apart on its own
all i ask is for some honest help and recommendations
P.S does anyone know where i can find those 2 water pipes that lead to the heater core locally i got nothing
Welcome to the forum!
Check the Harmonic balancer, which is the huge pulley that the belt mounts on at the very bottom..
This is very often the culprit.
What happens is the rubber starts separating and it sounds like yours does.
You can visually inspect it or you can see if you can shift the balancer by hand---there should be no movement---and this is a very common problem.
Rockauto.com has good prices and offers a discount--code in their post on Pontiac Bonneville Club Vendor's Forum
Heater hoses are in stock at Rockauto.com.
These should include the parts you need but double check before ordering. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/pont ... +pipe,6892
While you're replacing the hoses, you may want to consider replacing the bypass hose and the plastic fitting that it attaches to, as these regularly fail after so many years of use.
The replacement fitting is metal. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/pont ... +hose,2155

checked the harmonic balancer it is OEM so never the less might be time to be swapped, hell i have changed almost all the accessories i might as well change the water pump as well so all the parts can be fresh.. ill be honest im glad i found a forum for this car its going to make this project a lot more interesting
I second the balancer. Yours sounds and acts just like mine did. Just looking at it, it was kind of hard to tell, but the rubber face near the outer rim just looked creased with surface cracks. But I could grab the belt and move it enough that the outer hub of the balancer would rotate about an inch and the inner hub wouldn't budge. When I got under it, I found little bits of rubber from sitting there idling, shedding what rubber was left attached to the outer hub. There are metal stops inside it that ensure the belt keeps rotating when the rubber fails. That's what makes the knocking sound. When you rev up, the drag of the accessories is usually enough to keep the outer hub pressed against the inner hub's stops.

Good idea to change the water pump, since you'll already be removing the belt for the harmonic balancer and draining the coolant for the hoses and fitting.
Just so you're aware, ACDelco makes 3 different grades of parts. The best is OE, next down is Professional and the bottom of the list (don't bother) is the Advantage line.
I agree that this forum makes it much easier to deal with any issues that arise.
Good people and plenty of knowledge.
Had the same problem a few months ago, its the harmonic balancer, the rubber inside the pulley is probably broken or chewed up making the knocking noise. Get a GM pulley puller from O'Reilly's NOT AUTOZONE! Autozone gave me one for a *dang* Daewoo Lanos and I was like what the ****.. And make sure you buy a PowerBond brand pulley. I bought a popular brand from autozone and it turned out to be defected and took me hours getting off beccause of how messed up the thing was.
Getting the pulley off is easy, have a friend with you.. Put a breaker bar on the 24mm bolt (I cant remember if it is 24.) and crank the engine a few times DO NOT START, and the bolt should break free. Im pretty sure I let the bar sit on the upper motor mount.
Also, if you get a pulley puller that looks like a spaceship or chickens talon or whatever. Leave the crank bolt in to reduce damage to the threads on your crankshaft!
well guys thanks for that advise.. especially this thread i got the car to purr like a kitten once again , as of right now all belt drive accessories minus the AC are new and the harmonic balancer (how you guys suggested)have been swapped
