2005 GXP 110k value

Post by cougarcat454 »

I already test drove the car. Drives nice etc.. I would give it probably a 8 out of 10 for condition.
My question is what would a decent price be?
I know hard to say without seeing it etc..
I would call it nice condition.
5 grand ball park?

The last Pontiac Bonneville GXP on Ebay sold for $4,461, with 64,000 miles, 9 bidders, on 11 December 2016. One owner. Likely puts the GXP you are looking at in the $3,500-$4,000 range.

Post the VIN and I will run a carfax for you.

I was gonna say, $3k - $4k range would be a 110k mile version. Unless the the thing is utterly spotless, has had a complete documentation of all services, etc... Then I could see spending a few extra $$$.

I haven't seen a GXP around here for less than 5 grand with that kind of mileage...of course, anything with that kind of mileage gets unicorn status and the price skyrockets in MN, especially if it isn't rusting.
A temporary fix does not exist. It becomes a solution until it needs to be fixed again.

This car also had a bunch of dings and scrapes, and also mileage discrepancies on the carfax.

It all depends on your local market. This summer I sold a 93k GXP for $7000.

I guess if I was buying on eBay going off of photos only I probably would not go much over 4 grand either. Not being able to test drive or inspect under body etc...

Four prior owners, sold at auction three times, condition issues, and in the high risk zone of head gasket leak, puts my estimate down from $3500-$4000 to $2000. Huge risk in being a four owner GXP that lived in the north at 100k miles and no indication of proper care and maintenance.

Sold one a year ago with 169,000 for $4800 and kept the GXP wheels. Got another $950 for those with tires.
The car was immaculate tho with the exception of a very small paint peel on the bottom of the front bumper.
On the other hand I paid $4500 for it with both sets of wheels and tires.
Knowing what I know now about the N* I'd finish GXPing an 05 SLE tho.
Kid that bought my GXP has had it in the shop a few times.
Loved the sound and power tho. lol

Funny how that works. Some tend to lowball every vehicle out there but then turn around and think their's is worth more than it actually is.
Just sayin'...

Yea, I don't think from that carfax you can knock it down to $2000.00. Good title no accidents etc.. I bought an 02 Bonneville SLE with 145k on it multiple owners etc.. purchased in May of 2013. Still have the car today with 190K, only thing been done to it is tires. The small dealer I bought it from bought it at auction. Appearance can really tell you how a car has been taken care of.

I know the lady that was the last owner of this 05 I am looking at. I am not seeing any rust or dings of any kind on the car. Equipment all appears to work. If the guy had it priced at 2k I wouldn't be on this forum talking about it, it would be in my garage.

Heck I am not sure I would let my 2002 SLE go for 2K

I wouldn't let my $400 SLE go for 2 grand. Well, maybe before I put new tires on it....but probably not.

I just paid $3700 for my GXP, other than proverbial minor rust by gas cap, nearly perfect condition with 151k mileage, no drips, runs very strong.

Guess we view the value using different methods. I speculate you value using the demand for Bonnevilles in general in the Minnesota region (which may be the highest in the country), and your hard earned network of able to sell complete Bonnevilles and their parts.

I track prices via copart auctions, Ebay completed sales (not asking price), and craigslist prices, and if. when they sell. I currently value a 2005 Bonneville SLE as worth well over a $1,000 than a 2004-2005 GXP in same condition.

Well educated car buyers do their homework and know the GXP was a fun car when new, but at 10 years old is not a feasible daily driver for a person who has a decent commute or takes long trips, the risk is simply to great. It is even hard to find mechanics competent and/ or willing to service a tough job on a GXP, and the GXP is full of tough jobs. The only tough job I can think of on a 3.8l 2000-2005 Bonneville 3.8L is replacing the transmission.

The only GXP worth buying is a mint condition one with very verifiable records, that spent its life in the South or Southwest. Other than that a Bonneville GXP bought today should be purchased at a "beater" price or not purchased at all. The risk reward is way to high on the risk.

My game plan is to purchase a 2002 SSEi, from the Southwest, and replace the exterior parts with a GXP with a blown engine. I recently sold my Bonneville SLE, and am currently driving a 2006 Grand Prix with the super charged 3.8L, which is a fun ride.

I think it really depends on region. In some parts of the country it may be more desirable than in others. Most people have never heard of em.
Shoot i picked up a super clean black 2005 GXP Bonneville a month ago for $2000. 150k miles with no issues other than it needed tires. Although...now that ive been driving it for a while it currently needs the usual valve cover and intake gaskets due to it leaking oil. Sigh

Keep looking for a lower mileage one. I just got mine a few months ago, (05 GXP) with 62k miles for $6500. Perfect except for the HVAC gate valves not opening properly. Still need to fix that. I feel like I got a new car. Installing an aftermarket stereo system maybe this weekend. I miss the bluetooth I had with my illegal Diesel VW.
