2000 Bonneville SSEI weird humming noise.

Post by hindsight420 »

I just purchased a used 2000 bonne yesterday with 119k. Today I noticed a weird humming sound coming from the rear of the car. I usually only hear it at idle. Has anybody ever heard of this problem? From some quick research it seems that it could be an air suspension or something? Im not too big into cars so im not sure exactly what that would sound like. Is this anything to be concerned about? I'm afraid it could also be the fuel pump, but I hear it engage before i start the car. Thanks for the help I love my new car :)

Air compressor for the rear air shocks? The air compressor is located behind the rear right wheel. If you hear it at idle like at a stop light could be your shocks are loosing air, and the compressor is running more than it should to compensate for the air loss.

Welcome to the forums!

As mentioned above, you could have some leaky shocks or air lines, causing the compressor to keep on running. If you get out of the car while the hum is happening, it should be coming from the right rear corner of the car. More or less underneath the tail light.
