Figured I'd keep this thread updated. I made a different post about the LED dash light conversion, but here's the end result in the car. The only real issue I have is that the Fuel gauge needle isn't as bright blue as the other needles, but that may have something to do with the way the light is refracted by the internal lensing. I'm honestly not going to worry about it. It works, it looks pretty cool and I can live with it.

Now I just need to get a better sound system. The cheapy $20 Walmart Christmas special works....but doesn't have the power to drive the speakers properly and since the car is pretty quiet, I need something better to listen to. Maybe a small sub in the trunk while I'm at it ( I did run a signal wire for an amp when I ran my power wire for the head unit... )

Re: Picking up my Dirtbag 2000 SLE this weekend
Well, I built a subwoofer for the Dirtbag. I wanted something that wasn't going to take up a lot of space, something that would stay in place on its own, and look somewhat stock, if that's even possible with a 12" sub.
I'm pretty happy with the results. I used tape on the carpet over the fuel pump access hole and ran it up the side of the fender with about 3 layers and then ran a couple of layers of chopped strand mat. I'll tell you that it makes your car stink for a couple of weeks if you are planning on doing this...plan to do it when you can drive with the windows open! I made the front, side and back out of MDF, which I glued and screwed to the fiberglass, and then used fleece to create the top. I notched the back MDF panel so that the hinge would clear. Contact cement really stinks when you are spreading it out in your basement and it makes the wife very unhappy...I had started carpeting the outside-outside. But then rain forced me halfway to retreat inside to the basement to finish the job. The hardest part was the inside curves with the carpet...it took some creative cutting and notching to get it to look decent. All in all, I'm really happy with the look and performance of it. It's backed by a 1000w JBL amp mounted behind the plastic panel in front of the sub. The only wires you see are the two speaker wires, and I used banana clip style ends to plug into the sub. I'm not winning any competitions with it, but all I really wanted was to be able to fill in the lows the stock system couldn't handle. Honestly, I would have been more than happy with an 8 or 10" sub, but I got an open box deal on the pioneer. I tuned it a little on the low side so I shouldn't have to worry about blowing the speaker too much. It makes enough noise to be annoying to people inside and out, and all things considered, my entire stereo with head unit, 4 gauge wiring, amp, sub and box set me back a whopping $100. I'll eventually upgrade the headunit, but as little as I do drive it, it fits the bill for now.
