2001 Bonneville SLE Fuel Pump

I need to replace my fuel pump on my 2001 Bonneville SLE.
What is the best brand to go with?
I found a Delphi (FG0162) at Rock Auto for $191.00.
Is this a good pump to go with?

Delphi is an excellent to go with. One thing with the Delphi (and AC Delco) replacement pumps, they come with revised harnesses. This requires splicing of the wires at the fuel pump to install the modified connector. Very easy to do.

Also, you may want to start soaking the metal ring that holds the fuel pump in place with PB Blaster. The ring is subject to corrosion and PB Blaster will reduce the impact of the corrosion preventing the ring from turning loose and turning.

I ordered the fuel pump from Amazon.
It is the same Delphi part number (FG0162).
It was about $15.00 cheaper than Rock Auto because of the cheaper price and no freight.(we have Amazon Prime)
I also received it in 2 days.

I am the same person with the problem of the car stalling after I get gas.
Last July my brother in law and I replaced the fuel pump.
I believe it was a cheaper Airtex unit.
My brother in law thinks the car is stalling because of a cracked hose in the fuel pump.
He thinks gas is getting in there and causing the car to stall.
It should be an easy swap as we have already soldered the new style harness on and the retaining ring was new
and we put grease on the backside before installing it.
I will advise if this takes care of it.

I changed the fuel pump yesterday and found a couple things.
The new fuel pump (Delphi FG0162) was different from the one I took out.(Airtex)
The new pump has 2 smaller hoses in it not like the old pump which had 1 larger hose.
The new pump has an internal strainer and the old one had an external strainer.
Does anyone know if this is a new type of design or engineering change?
I also found another issue.
It looks like there is a type of sludge or grainy material in the bottom of the tank.
I did not have time to drop the tank and clean it out but I have a feeling I will be doing that shortly.
It looks to me like it was some type of residue buildup possible caused by the Ethanol fuel we are forced to use.
I have had issues with my snow blower and lawn mower where the needle valve in the carburetor keeps plugging up.
I do know that the Ethanol fuel in my opinion is nothing but garbage!!!
I get less mileage then I do on the normal gas so I burn more to go the same amount of miles.

hi, how was the screen? was it clogged with the 'residue'? I doubt the ethanol causes this grit in the tank -
maybe try a different station to fill up and see if the residue is present - I try to get gas that has a maximum of 10% ethanol -

yes, the screen on my new pump was inside the housing also so I would hope its an upgraded design.

The screen did not look to bad or clogged up.
I should also mention that I found a small broken piece of plastic with a small metal snap ring in the fuel pump container.
I do not know where it came from or whether it was jamming in the pump when I filled up.
I use nothing but BP gas at various stations.(I have BP credit card)
I believe BP has a maximum of 10% ethanol.

The new fuel pump connector was designed to allow more current to the pump (reduced resistance). Kind of like a bigger pipe for electrons at the pump where the electric comes in.
