Re: Parking break replacement
You can release the tension out back at the caliper. Just gotta slide the little spring/pin thing out of the arm. Not sure of other ways, but I did that on one side of my car so that no one ever engages my bad caliper and gets stranded. LOL

Re: Parking break replacement
You'll want to isolate the actual problem before you free up whatever is binding.
Jack up the rear wheels and try to spin the tires by hand with the parking brake off to whatever extent it releases..
If one tire spins and the other one doesn't, you know the cable or the parking brake mechanism is sticking at the stuck wheel.
If both wheels are locked up, then you probably have a frozen front or middle cable.
You can try roughly wiggling the thick shielded parts of the cables and see if that frees up the sticking cable or cables.
If the front cable isn't the one sticking, then you can disconnect the cables at the connector underneath the back of the driver's door.
The return spring can go bad in the release mechanism of the pedal assembly and just cause it to lack enough tension to return the pedal to the top.

Re: Parking break replacement
Both wheels spin freely. Cables haven't been used in the 3 years I've had the car and were frozen when I bought it. Both rear cables are lumpy and show rot in the cable where the spring is. In pretty sure I broke the mechanism inside the pedal cause if I press on it hard I get no clicking. The eaquilizer broke and I already disconnected the cable at the caliper so it doesn't drag but theres still tension.... Stupid salt belt

Problem is my father is CONVINCED there's an adjustment someplace..... Me I know that the cables are bad since I can't move them when they are disconnected from the caliper

Re: Parking break replacement
In all fairness to your father there IS an adjustment but you are right in that it can't fix frozen cables.
If you want to save money, the ACDelco professional cables are pretty cheap and seem like they're OK qualitywise.
The OE parking brake pedal assembly includes the front cable.
You can probably get one from Harofreak00 or order from the dealer part # 15803471 .

Re: Parking break replacement
Cables have been purchased. Was mostly wondering if there was an easier way other than cutting the old cable lol

Re: Parking break replacement
Nope, probably the easiest to cut the old cables out.
Bye Bye:

Pedal assembly was jammed. Disassembled the cable and all's good! Onto the next issue
