2005 Bonneville SE blower moter/fan doesn't come on

Post by homeboy517 »

All the buttons on the climate control panel light up when pressed but the FAN / BLOWER MOTOR doesn't come on. It doesn't matter if I try using the AC or HEAT. Please share you thoughts on how to troubleshoot this, as I'm not sure where to start.

This is becoming a common problem as these cars age. The brushes wear out in the blower motor and it requires replacement. You can remove the lower hush panel that is below the glove box. There are two 7mm bolts and a push pin style fastener which hold it up. This will reveal the bottom of the blower motor. You can try tapping on it to see if it comes back to life to get a little bit of use out of it still, but ultimately, it needs to be replaced. It is held in by three 10mm bolts (I believe) and the electrical connector. Not a bad job at all. Replacement motors aren't too pricey on Amazon or Rockauto.

I think 2003 and up got a newer and more compact blower motor, which makes replacement much easier. Might still have to get on your back however.

Yup. If you're a larger person, I'd suggest removing the passenger seat to make this even easier. Luckily, I'm small and relatively flexible. I was laying on my seat upside down. Haha!
