Leaking Tail Lens - 2005 SE

Post by 1oldman »

Has anyone had success sealing leaking/de-laminated tail lens on the 2000-2005 SE? The passenger side has started getting moisture inside. Thanks! - BC

I just gave up and drill several 1'8" holes in the bottom to let it drain.

I just opened my trunk the other day after it sat for a week, water. Water everywhere in my trunk when it lifted. Just pouring out of my trunk lid near the lens.

I'm guessing one reason could be from no rubber seals under the washers and nuts holding the lens on. I still need to do some of my own investigating. - BC

Any idea if one of the Super Glue formulas would work to seal the edges of the lens what have delaminated, or to prevent a leak on the ones not delaminated yet? - BC

Not sure about the center, but I have layers upon layers of silicon all around both my outer tails. Still get the occasional tiny bit of moisture, sadly.

HI, IF YOU REMOVE THE RUBBER PLUGS on the lip of trunk, the water will drain onto rear bumper and onto ground.
Also, inside the trunk, you can see a small 2 inch gap where the t- light meets trunk - put silicon on it and water will not enter light anymore. I put a small rubber hose in the hole and silicon around
it to allow hose to function as a vent tube for light - put hose 2 inches in hole and leave other end downhill so no water run-off goes into light
poverty forces one to do unorthodox things
