blower motor not working

Post by ad356 »

the blower motor on our 1999 bonneville quit working. im talking about the HVAC blower motor. last winter we replaced the motor because it was getting loud. worked great for a while now it wont run. i tested the voltage with the blower motor set on full, im getting 1.27 volts. i find that strange i was expecting 12v dc and a bad motor OR no voltage and either a blown fuse or wiring problem. so i am guessing the fuse is good, the blower motor is fine, and the wiring is good since i am getting SOME voltage just not enough. is this problem likely the blower "module" (blower resistor). im used to the analog type blower resistor in which you loose 1 or 2 speeds when they start to fail. how does this electronic module fail? does the whole thing quit or do you usually just loose 1 or 2 speeds? the part is $100 shipped on rockauto and my wife just lost her job so we need to make sure that is indeed the problem.

typical failure mode of the blower control module: blower continues to run after ignition off.

there is a post in forum that voltage into blower control module should be approx. 9 vdc when max blower speed selected (gray wire).

if still in doubt about module after observing above before you spend $100, a trip to JY for a used module may be worth while (however, chance of good module from JY is iffy).
