Bonne is Bogging and Hesitating Pretty bad.
Having a bit of an issue here. When I try to accelerate at mid-high throttle it will bog and hesitate pretty bad. This only happens when the car is warming up. At regular operating temps this issue does not happen at all whatsoever.
This problem started after the following was replaced:
Valve cover gaskets
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
NGK iridium spark plugs!!!
I've checked and made sure the plugs are gapped correctly and the plug wires are in the right order and connected. Fuel pressure is good and the gas tank was cleaned out when the fuel pump was replaced.
I'm going to clean the MAF and IAC. What else should I check and try?

Hi, please check all the vacuum lines and connections you had to move to get to rocker covers.
Maybe on was left disconnected or it broke causing leak

Re: Bonne is Bogging and Hesitating Pretty bad. (Update)
Checked all the vacuum lines and connections that were moved when the valve cover gaskets were replaced. All looked fine no damage nor frayed wires.
Today I took it to my mechanic and apparently cylinder #6 is getting a bad spark. Tried a different spark plug wire and coil pack and it didn't change anything. Could it be a bad ICM? How can I test it?

There's not really a good way to test the icm. A lot of parts stores can test it, but good icms have tested bad, and bad ones tested good. Really the best way to test is to swap it with a known good icm

I did swap it out with one from a junkyard. No difference though. :(
If it helps any I notice when it starts running rough the Scangauge notes it's going into an open loop. When it switches to closed loop it runs fine again.

Leaning towards it. From what I've checked the heater might be getting weak.J Wikoff wrote:Oxygen sensor?
All I have is my Scangauge and I don't know any codes for the Xgauge feature to get any details on the sensors and whatnot.

Re: Bonne is Bogging and Hesitating Pretty bad. (Update)
Tried a different o2 sensor. No changes.
Gave up and took the car to a shop and they pulled a p1571. Which from what I've read is a code for the ABS system. This couldn't cause my issues could it?
Other than this I'm stuck on to do next.

Is the engine NA or S/C? If it's NA, see about putting a vacuum gauge on it that you can read from inside the passenger compartment while you drive it. - BC

I see the i in 1997 SSEi now. Oh well, "just a shot in the dark" by 1oldman. Only other thing I could thing of is to check the fuel pressure at the FPR. I didn't read anywhere that the fuel pressure had been checked. - BCBlown93SSEi wrote:Supercharged.
Edit - I just found in the OP that the pressure had been checked. I'd go back and start all over again and check it all again just 1 more time. Maybe you'll stumble onto the problem. I did last week on my '05 after poking around under the hood for 2 days. - BC

I know you said you changed wires and coil on #6 but did you change the plug?
Could just be a bad spark plug new out of the box.
Just did plugs and wires on my 96 and it brought new life to it.
Power up hills, NO MORE chuggle on inclines, I must have have a bad wire for years.

Plugs are brand new. Wires are not new, But I've looked over them and I didn't notice any damage nor any electrical leaks while testing them.

Trying to eliminate possibilities here. What information does the PCM use when it is in closed loop vs. open loop?

Re: Bonne is Bogging and Hesitating Pretty bad. (Update)
Its hard to tell a bad wire from visual inspection, you have to use an OHM meter to test them.
I would say maybe a weak wire on #6 got worse when you removed it from the spark plug to change the plugs.
I think I recall the PCM uses the crank sensor, TPS and 02 sensor in open loop, then in closed the rest
of the sensors kick in.

The only thing the FSM mentions that you haven't already starting
looking at are Boost System /Boost Solenoid and the Knock Sensor
for false retard.
Have you removed the ICM and checked and cleaned the mounting/grounding bolts?

Went and picked up a scan tool today. I need a little help on the proper numbers for the sensors. What numbers should I be seeing during idle and at say 1500 or 2500 RPM?

Going over the car last night I noticed oil around the front valve cover gasket leaking onto the exhaust manifold. Going to redo them and recheck the cylinder 3 and 5 spark plug and the number 5 injector to see if any crud got in there and fouled anything.
Can a leaky valve cover directly cause running/performance issues?
