Instrument Cluster Flicker.

Post by viper79 »

Instrument Cluster Flicker. Got in my car turned the key and the cluster acted it's normal 5 second check then when O took off and stopped at a light I noticed the lights dimmed and the cluster started to flicker. I then preceded down the highway and it "gradient" flickered heavy to low. Then I tuned on my country road and then i applied the brights....the chime came on Ding Ding Ding....Ding Ding with the cluster simultaneously flashing and resetting to 0 as if i turned the car on again. The SES, Security, Break and the ABS light cam on, flashed then shut off except the Break and ABS. I plan on checking the brakes on Sunday, but the "Silver Slut" ran like a raped ape. Brakes worked fine, and so did the engine. I pulled in the my drive and shut the Slut off and counted to 10 then started her back up. She fired back up like a liberal getting "offended" and purred like a fed cat. Cluster? Fine, but that dame security light which I fix by juggling the key....done this for 6 years now. Also, the Voltmeter is dancing more that normal. like 12 to 18.....not 14 to 16 like I'm use to?

Bad Cluster?
Short?
Bad Alt?

It has a new belt.
Recent work is both intakes. (I have now "wrench knowledge" but I do now thanks to Pontiac Bonneville Club and Youtube) Wish I could get upgraded here on the forum.

I plan on checking the fuse box because I may have spilled water in it when I flushed the radiator out. I had a blast doing the intakes.
One more thing. Dorman LIM did NOT match up the holes. Went to the yard and got a used one.

What gives guys? :dontknow:

Hmm...

Did your digital odometer/trip computer display also spaz out?

Have you any water leaks?

Because mine was throwing a similar fit, which I've pretty much blamed on the front right sunroof drain getting that major body harness (that goes into the DIM) wet, causing all sorts of hell.

Since reattaching the drain, summer baking the stripped interior dry, it appears to have fixed my problems
