2 bad crank sensors ?

Post by need info »

Bonnie the ghost hawk is sick . Had a service engine light come for a. Bad crank sensor . Replaced it. Yesterday. Reset codes . Today engine dies once cold and cuts out later on under heavy throttle . Light come back on again with a crank sensor code . Bad sensor out of the box ? Any thoughts.
Thanks in advance for any help

It could be a bad new sensor, certainly wouldn't rule it out.

Driving to work today service engine light went off on it's own don't know what to think about that. Car ran great may wait till weekend to try new sensor. Also noticed when light was on temp went up to 200 when it is off it runs 180. Also noticed a big drop in mpg with light on. Man I love this car

was it running fine before the ckp change and just had a light? what brand did you use? a few inputs-if is it was running ok, but just had a light, then it could be a bad new sensor or your wiring connection was disturbed. a cheap/off brand may be bad. if you used ac delco, I doubt the new one is bad. also, after the change, you are supposed to get the pcm to relearn with a gm scan tool. I replaced mine recently due to a light, but car running fine, and I still occasionally get the light, but I did not get a relearn, car runs fine. I would try the relearn first or check your wiring. If you do replace again, use ac delco and ensure it is installed correctly and there is no corrosion/dirt on your connectors. there is some good troubleshooting ckp on google search, you can try those. good luck.

Car was running great then took spells it would die at idle when cold. Then it cut out when hot 180 degrees on interstate and service engine light came on. I pulled into to advanced auto had them check the. Code cps showed up . Bought sensor from them changed it next day. Ran like a new car for one day . Next day days in drive way light came on pulled codes again ( 2 cps high to low) I think it is what it said anyway car runs bit not as peppy seems sluggish and gas mileage seems to have dropped off at least 3 to 4 miles hwy and city is way down. just ordered a new gm sensor will replace it again. how. Do I do a relearn? this is all new to me icm, pcm,cps :helpsmilie: am old school my other car is a 1972 Monte Carlo and a 1970 Chevy truck
Thanks for the reply

the relearn is a gm tech scan tool only either a dealer or a shop with that capability, usually about $100. I replaced mine and did not do the relearn and it runs fine without it. I am not saying it is going to resolve it, only it is a possibility and is required per the shop manual when you change a cps. Don't forget it can also be a wire. Also the harmonic balancer reluctor ring can cause a cps problem as well. inspect it carefully when you remove it. the rubber holding it can deteriorate and allow it to drift. they are about 100 at rock auto or try amazon. google the code and there are a few other things that can cause a pcm- ignition, etc. check this source http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/gm/3.8 ... k-sensor-1 - good luck

Got the new gm sensor today installed cleared codes drove car no problem. Shut it off about 30 minutes later it starts runs 2 minutes then dies start it back up and it throws a p1374 code again for crankshaft position sensor high low . Changed to a. Different scaner checked coded again p1374 same as before bot now says ignition misfire. Wires and plug in for crank sensor are clean and in good shape. Should I change icm or pcm go to dealer to see about a relearn . If its the pcm I want to replace it with one the same as ghosthawk installed before.
