A/C Compressor leakage
Since I park my rarely driven 00 in the garage it's easy to notice drippage.
A couple of years ago I first noticed a few drops of oil on the floor under the A/C compressor. Last year I had it serviced at the dealer to recharge the freon in hopes that it might resolve the leak.
Now it is flinging oil and making a slight mess. My OCD compels me to fix it before the compressor takes out the whole A/C system.
So I have a new compressor, receiver/dryer and orifice tube on order from Rock Auto - $400
With such low mileage I wonder if the seal failure is due to it seeing 6000 rpm often.....
Anyone else have similar issues?

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
Yup. Mine is leaking currently. About a year or so ago noticed it, had it "serviced" but it's still there dripping a few dots after a drive.

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
The dealer quoted 700 just for the compressor.

Change yours before it frags and sends metal thru your whole system.

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
I recently went through almost the same thing...I took it to a shop first to have the system charged with leak detection refrigerant (UV responsive dye) and diagnosed. I was then quoted $750 for parts and labour, long story short i did the repairs myself for around $225, granted I own a vacuum pump and gauges.
I used this A/C compressor http://www.autozone.com/cooling-heating ... 5614_3515/
If u need any pointers on installing it yourself let me know... it's not very difficult. (as long as you are mechanically inclined)

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
How did you evacuate the system without exhausting into the atmosphere?
I can do anything mechanical......tell me more....

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
Mine started leaking a couple of years ago. I had a shop recharge it with the dye, and they found a small leak in the compressor. I picked up a used one from Andrew, replaced it, and then had the same shop evacuate and recharge it for me. They only charged me for the original fill, not the follow-up evacuation and recharge. It's been working fine, but I haven't had a chance to run it for a while.

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
So I can simply disconnect....pssssttt....and replace all the hard parts, then bring it in for an evacuation and refill? That's easy.
Reminds me of the time many years ago. I was trying to install a lock on my fridge to control overeating youngens. Drilled into the fridge to attach the padlock and the last hole....pssssttt....new fridge time!

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
I had the shop evacuate my system, instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. I think that is also what helped save an extra charge for more freon.

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
So then the shop installed all the components too? I don't think you can install the new components without draining the freon. They quoted me 2 hrs labour at $95/hr.

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
After finding where the leak was, the shop drained the freon. I then installed the compressor that I bought from Andrew. After it was installed, I took the car back to the shop, where they vacuumed the system down, and then put the freon back in.

Re: A/C Compressor leakage
you guys are on track.. i let mine slowly bleed off through the winter.(the slow leak is why i replaced the compressor) by the time i "realesed pressure" there was no pressure lol. if u still have that fridge u messed up you can use the compressor as a vacuum pump (thats how i did it) and just RENT gauges from autozone...it only takes $45 in R134a to do it yourself
