newbie to the bonne world.
hello everyone, my name is joe. i like long walks on the beach, 9" sof.....oops, wrong forum. like the title says im new in the bonne world. i just got the car from my father who is the second owner, actually we keep thing in the family. my uncle bought the car in 99 and he has to have every option under the sun in his cars. so gota love those hand-me-downs. this car is so comfortable you wouldnt expect it to pull as hard as it does for a 3900lb sedan.
lets get into a little about me and my history. im a mechanic in the Army (hence the name) been doing that for 10 years now, cant wait to get out because my back hurts. anyway, ive been in the "car scene" for a while now. my first car was an 89 park ave, i got it for 500$ and loved it. it, too was fully loaded, from the pillow top leather seats, to the ELC i could'nt have asked for a more comfortable/better car, one day i changed the trans fluid and filter, and 2 weeks later the trans started slipping. it was a sad day for me and "ol' bessy" so after that iv searched for the same car but coul;dnt find anything for the price. so i had a 91 civic hatchback, 500$, 380k on the odo and still got 38 mpg. i blew that one up in 4 years... ok enough lets get down and dirty.
Bonne (as she sits)
mileage: 124k
color: Tan (dont know the exact)
Engine: L67 series 2 supercharged
Interior: tan leather all around, crazy 9 billion way adjustable seats, bose audio.
the car was maintained by GM and every service was done at the exact time it was scheduled.
so here are some quirks, my dad is a "shade tree mechanic" hes good at what he does, his "mods" work, for instance; (i may be wrong explaining this, but please stay with me) the auto level for the rear suspension craped out, so he installed a 3 way switch by the shifter to add air or take air out of the rear airbags. works like a charm, but its ghetto. i dont know much about the car so i dont know if it had airbag suspension all around. but while my uncle (the original owner) had the car, i know he had a problem with the suspension and had to change some stuff i.e. the touring ride and perform ride buttons are for decor, they dont work anymore. anyway, onward. i have a "clunk" sound in the front end while driving over bumps (i live in NJ and the roads are bad, *dang* salt and plows tearing up the roads) i havent had time to get the car on a lift to check the bottom out yet, but im going to check the subframe bushings and all the bushings for that matter. ive been trolling the internet and everytime i type in a symptom for bonne, it brings me to you guys here in this forum. i have to say, you guys know your stuff. the maintenance list 00beast posted on here was awesome, and i knew i was in the right place. read mattstrikes build "restoring the ssei" post, awesome work.
so here are my goals for this family sports car, since its going to be a daily driver, i dont want to go too crazy. i like the face that i can take any car (within reason) in a race (silly hondas) with the motor being stock. ive been looking at the zzp website and gauging interest in doing some mods, i like the "sleeper" aspect of cars. as of now, i want to get the motor back to square, meaning, do all the necessary service, ive read about the LIM gasket change and DEX so thats number one and im getting to that mileage where it would be good to change. pretty much, im going to do all the things on the maintenance list as mentioned before. after that, we shall see wheat next. the car is COMPLETLY stock. so i see a blank canvas and the starry night sky is the limit.
well thats all i got for now, any questions or just want to know more leave a post here.. pics of the car soon to come (when i take my ass out in the cold and take them that is)
have a lovely day fellas.

Re: newbie to the bonne world.
Welcome, Joe!
Sometimes a clunk in the front can indeed indicate indicate a subframe problem. Out of all possibilities, it is probably the most dangerous and likely to send the car off to a scrapper, if not handled before it becomes terminal.
Then again, it might be something a bit easier, like a suspension bushing, or even a sway bar end link, which is on the *whew, no big deal* end of the scale. Since you turn wrenches daily, I'm sure you'll have no problem finding the source for the noise.
I hope you are stationed where it is warm, but anyway I'm sure that the Army provides a decent place for you to work. Now, if you are allowed to use the facilities on your own rides, that is a great perk. Thank you for your service, soldier. I hope you realize how much a huge portion of the people appreciate it, even if we disagree with the political rationale for use of America's armed forces.

Re: newbie to the bonne world.
Thank you for the welcomes! Weird thing, I got in the car to go to my bowling league and went to start the car and crank crank crank sputter sputter until I put my foot on the gas. Smelled a little like sulfer. Now you could accredit it to the cold considering it's 17 degrees here in NJ, but the other day it was 2 degrees and it started right up.. first orders of business is plugs, wires, coil packs, air and fuel filters.. it's like bonne knew I was getting advice on how to mod her.. I'll take pics and post them later tonight.. just to let you know, she's a dirty girl right now.. will any old image hosting do, or is there a specific one? Suggest!

Welcome to the club!
The sputter could indicate a throttle body that needs cleaning, along with its sensors.

Re: newbie to the bonne world.
update on the starting issue, after my league i went out to the car which had been sitting for about 2.5 hrs and it started right up with no problem. preface to this post, i should tell you, when the starting problem happend the car was sitting for one day. before i went to the bowling alley (which is about 5 miles from home) i started the car (no issues) went down to the 7-11 for cigarettes, the 7-11 is a 1 minute drive. came out of the store and went to start the car and thats where i encountered the starting problem.
so prior to the starting issue, the car was running for about 8 minutes.
i know this post was a little confusing
