pinging or bell-like sound coming from engine?

Hey guys, my tire popped off my rim today and when i put the spare on and fired her up, now i hear a constant ringing coming from the engine. almost as if it is coming from the SC belt. could i have a something loose in there or what? i wanted to ask before i bring it to a mechanic

When mine sounded like that it was the Harmonic Balancer. Pull the serpentine belt off and see if the outside of the crankshaft pulley can be easily moved with your hands. There is a possibility the Crankshaft Position Sensor can be damaged if you drive it without fixing it. - BC

That would be something to take to a shop right? I wasn't planing on driving it until I got an appointment. Is it hard to fix? Expensive?

Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, the tools you have would, a place to work, and the time you have would be the deciding factors to that answer. I could have done it myself 15 years ago, but not now, no way, no how.

Depends on just how lucky you feel. I drove mine 20 miles without any problems. I don't know if I was stupid or lucky. - BC

It does not sound like that video. It's higher pitched. I can get a video. Give me a day haha

took it into the shop, they said they think the sound is coming from the supercharger, that it could be the coupler. they are not charging me for labor yet so before they do, i thought i would ask if this could be a possibility?

oh another thing, after the car runs at idle for a while, the sound almost goes away completely. weird. im still on board for the coupler idea

if it goes away when idling it will most not likely be the coupler. Remove the SC belt and see if the sound is still there. When a coupler goes bad it sounds more like marbles/gravel rolling around not so much a ping/ringing. What side of the engine is the sound (front, back, Drivers side, Passenger side, Cead Center)? if the belt is off and the sound is still there then its not a coupler issue. it may not be anything to worry about good to know what it is.

what ive come to notice is as i accelerate it makes the sound as well, but only sometimes, its a very finniky sound. sometimes its there, sometimes its not. so idk about that

ya i did get that completely fixed and had my car looked at by a tires and wheels shop. they said nothing tire or wheel related was damaged, and that they had pinned the sound down to the supercharger
