Classic or cookie cutter Pontiac?

Should I be valuing this 1994 SSEi as a classic or simply a depreciated regular car using the 15% first year and 30% every year after depreciation rule?
$40K --> 20 years --> $1,500

As a classic, it should be worth $5,000 in excellent condition with no rust, great paint, strong 120K drivetrain with no mechanical issues!

I'm asking $3,500 but will settle for $3,000.
I'm not worried, if I don't find a buyer, I'll keep her stored after the insurance runs out in May.

I'd say keep her for yourself, she is probably worth more to you than she will ever be to anyone else. If I were you, I'd keep her as a cruiser!

Still a regular car. I'm pretty sure it's in good condition, but nowhere near what we'd call concours. I think you're not going to see the "classic" value come into play for another couple decades at minimum. It's a great $1500-2000 car all day long.

If it's not your kid it would probably wind up in the junk yard totaled in less than 6 months. I know, it happened to the youngest son's Plymouth when he sold it to a kid. First cars get destroyed by kids due to a lack of matureity. - BC

in Michigan that'd for more than $2500. Can't see the interior. But that is a clean car. You've taken care of it. Keep it rolling for yourself, if you can't get what you really want out of it money wise don't let it go.

For any car older than 15 years old

$500 for parts car or barely/doesnt run
$1000 for runs good or looks good
$1500 for runs good and looks good
$2000 for runs great and looks great
$2500 for runs perfect and looks perfect

I would say if you cut the mileage in half you may be able to push $3500 but even though that is so nice and a great color ( my very first car 88 Astro was that color) they were too popular and that can keep the price down... Hold on to it because the price will only go up over the next 10 years

That is because the perception of most buyers is;
If you spent all that time and money why do you want to get rid of it?.
If it's had performance mods it's probably been driven hard.
Insurance might be tricky on a non standard car.

If the car is running fine why do want to sell it?. If you keep it a few more years it might accrue some rarity value.
The problem with having a nice example of something that generally isn't highly valued is not many want to pay a premium for it.

The 94 I'm trying to sell is bone stock.
I bought it not running and fixed it. I'm selling it because I have four other vehicles including my modified 00 Bonne. Insurance is about $1,000 per.
Price dropped to $3,000
I'll keep it listed until May and if no one bites, it will get parked.....awaiting the demise of one 02 SunFire.

I'd keep it as well. If you don't need the money just sit on it for a while.

As a licensed insurance agent you should check with your current before allowing the insurance to expire and not renewing the policy. In most states, as long as you own the car (titled in your name) you must have at least minimum limits of liability on it even if it is parked and you no longer drive it. In our state you can apply for a "non highway title" which allows you to take the tag off, send it to the state and store the car in a manner acceptable to local laws. i.e. probably can't park it in your front or side yard or on the driveway of your house. You also sign an affadavit that it will not be driven on public roadways. And remember, you can still be held legally liable for damages caused by the vehicle if its being driven (even if you don't have insurance on it). Example: your kid jumps in the car one night for a joy ride and has an accident thats his/her fault. bummer.

Yes I know. I have two of my vehicles stored in my garage now with $30/year storage policy. I only insure two at a time, two summer and two winter but the Denali is full time.
Local laws permit parking in the driveway just not on the road.
This car is worth way more than its marketable value.
