Hi, I know this problem has some up in the forums before but I would like some fresh in put if you all dont mind. I have 2000 bonneville SE with 230,000 miles. Upon starting the car it will rev up and immediately die. I can get it to run by feathering the pedal but even then the engine does not respond to the pedal well and i really have to pump it to keep it running. It will misfire and run really rough until the temp gets to 140-150 degrees, then it goes into a smooth idle and will run perfectly. If I start the car every four hours it will run perfectly everytime. If it sits for longer I have to repeat this process. The code scanner came back with a mass air flow sensor issue. I took that out and cleaned it, checked the connections and reinstalled it. I see a noticeable difference in the car's performance while it is running well but it did not solve the starting issue. Any ideas on a next step? Should I replace the MAF? Seems odd to me that it runs fine once it warms up. And seriously it is like a switch gets flipped when it decides to smooth out and run. One second i'm feathering with limited engine response and then boom the idle smooths out and it is perfect. Any ideas? Thank you for any input. I'm a novice do it your selfer but usually have good success when I can pinpoint what I need to do. Not sure if this is related but the heater was not blowing hot a couple weeks ago, a mechanic friend of mine flushed the heater core and the heat works great now, but this issue started the next day.

update.....just now I couldnt get it to stay running, I unplugged the MAF and it ran fine, is it safe to assume the MAF sensor is in fact the issue?

I hate to butt in, I'm sure others can voice better informed solutions, but if you disconnected the MAF and it finally runs, I think you found your problem...

It's not related to the flush. As mentioned above, unplug the MAF and see how she does. Get a replacement MAF that is OEM if possible. The aftermarket ones are known to be flaky.
