Aftermarket system/Specs of Installation
I have an 02 Bonneville SSEi with the monsoon system in it...I'm looking to install a new system but it's come to my understanding that you need to somehow override the monsoon system I'm taking it into custom sounds to have them install it I just don't know if I need to tell them anything about it

The GMOS-09 harness will let you use a different head unit, without causing any trouble or issues.

So I have to replace the original harness in the back of the original radio unit and does that allow me to still use my steering wheel controls

Not sure on the steering wheel controls, but no you don't need to touch the harness in back. The new harness plugs into the dock n lock connector.

So that harness in the back that connected to my original head unit will just sit there

No, the harness plugs into the adapter.

Re: Aftermarket system/Specs of Installation
Oh ok I see now... I bought a Boss Double DIN when I looked for PAC SWI this brand did not appear on the list there was a universal but it seems universal doesn't quite agree with Bonnevilles..so my next question should I get a brand that is on the list for the SWCI module

Re: Aftermarket system/Specs of Installation
If you want the steering wheel controls you have to buy a HU that works with the available SWC interfaces. Not all the controls will work with any specific unit. And the depth of the radio cavity is too small so you have to cut out the back to make space for the new HU. I would avoid ones with motorized screens as they will have to sit outside of the dash trim and may not look good. You also need a metra adaptor to mount the Hu to the dash. (GM Multi-Kit 95-2001 Double-DIN adaptor for 00-05 Bonnevilles)

Re: Aftermarket system/Specs of Installation
Do you think they would know this at the installation place or would I have to order it and bring it in with me and explain

HU is short for head unit.

Re: Aftermarket system/Specs of Installation
Did they use the correct harness for the amplified system?

Re: Aftermarket system/Specs of Installation
some of the GMOS-09 are labelled incorrectly on which wire to cut. There is no need to bypass the Monsoon unless you plan to upgrade speakers.
