01 SSEi Oil Pan Gasket

Post by spoiledred94 »

I've got an oil leak and I want to replace the oil pan gasket. Ive read that I need to lift the motor and remove a mount before I can drop the pan. Is this right for my 01 SSEi?

Andrew posted a comment that it was rare for that gasket to leak, but if you replaced it, you did have to raise the engine. - BC

Yes motor is all sealed up now. The gasket is like the vavle cover gasket. I used a board with bottle jack on trans pan to saport motor. Tried to do it with out taking mount off frame, got everything loose with swivel but pan caught on pick up so in the end it all had to come off.

I looked again at the Valve covers and saw nothing. I don't think shes burning it and the oil pan is greasy grimey. Maybe I should clean the pan and see what turns up.

The Grand Prix guys cite the pan gasket as relatively common with age/mileage. I wouldn't rule it out.

I put a large sheet of paper under the motor and ran the car for ten minutes. There were oil and atf drips. I think I will replace the gasket when I do my next oil change.

I had more then a few leaks on mine..
1: Oil pan gasket... Support engine and remove mount.
2: Trans Pan gakset
3: Power steering line leaking at crimp... replaced
4: Axle seal leaking (LF)
5: Trans cooler lines and Power steering line again leaking at crimp.. made SS Braided lines and no more leaks
6: Axle seal LF leakin again.. replaced and good.
7: Radiator leaking at end tank.. replaced radiator..

So that is PS, OIL and trans all leaking. the Intake was already done when i bought the car but did them again with valve covers when i did the GENV Swap.

So yes, if its like mine it all leaks (leaked.. Past tense)

That is a big repair ticket. I imagine it was a big deal to replace all that. I did the trans pan gasket, and I know my rad doesn't leak. The PS pump does leak and trans cooler I don't know. All your hydraulic line leaks make me want to put in an aux ATF cooler and the lines a long with it...

That's what i should have done, but i did most of them at once and was already fed up with doing the work :) lol I hate leaks.. especially doing them more then once.

trans cooler might be one of my next mods.

:eek2: :eek2:

Ive been to that point, and the money... ehck

Its my numberone priority in my budget next to essentials. I got a ticket today and man if it had been a little earlier it might not have been a ticket. Its SC and I like that. Im not sure I can drive Betty at the speed limit all the time...Its just so eesy to pass.

My budget just isnt going to ever support extensive performance mods...probably just a bad day for me:hit it:

Thanks XC. and flatlander745 too. with age there has to be some decay and with my 13 yo car too.

I pulled the pan today and chose not to completely remove the bracket. The other thing was I had a cheap 10 mm socket that was rounded (Ive checked my store and they didn't have one for two weeks now). finally used my other 10 out of curiosity and the bolt came out next try.

Urgent I need to know how to clean an aluminum oil pan exterior. I want to paint it before morning. I have over night to clean it and paint it and put it back on tomorrow before dark (5.5pm)

Have tried brake cleaner and Dawn and its not going TOO good/ thanks.

Blue can easy off oven decreased and pressure washer. Way better than anything the auto stores sell. Cleaned all the sludge off my heads on my Cadillac srx down to metal again. That's after wasting money on Purple power, simple green, kerosene and diesel lol. I was doing timing chains and noticed the previous owner knew nothing about oil change maintenence.
